a few weeks ago I remember a great thread analysing themes in the various songs e.g. dealing with things like the horses in Weekenders referring to Chips ahoy, where Sapphire fits in with Holly etc.
I can't find it and wanted to show it to someone - please could one ofyou kind people point me i the right direction ?
(I thought it may well have been one of ym fave' ever threads on these boards).
Cheers

I got one at Jumbo inLeeds - there were about 100 people in the queue by 9am but the ticket system ment that Mike of these boards nd i were able to have some comfort that we'd have every chance of the stuff we wanted.
Happily, Jumbo had already opened the cellophane and so I wasn't left in a quandry about whether or not to play the album. I totaly loved it.
And I got the Arab Strap box set which - if expensive - is a total and utter joy, full of amazing demo tapes, rarities, etc. Plus I bought the blur single and the Record Store book - fair to say I'm loving the day already.
Hope it went well for you all.

Count me in. Plans not yet definite as wrok remains the curse of the drinking classes, but will be there. Hopefully not in suit and cufflinks this time -thought hope Ben will reprise his pink Gayrilla antics.

Mike - I've just had an email back from Jumbo to confirm they are getting some of these - like Ben I'll be outside the door bright and early. I do hope we can have a listening party (and that me putting this up isn't breaching the mod policy re this album) - clearly you'll be cordially invited.

Ben - this is a truly magnificent thread. And well worthy of you. (You forgot our efforts at the pub quiz in Manchester which was also a great night, even though I must make a mental note that a cheeky beer with you often becomes a whole lot more).
In the same spirit, I'm off to a New Years party with Andy from the old board whose name I forgot, but who I saw hug a policeman whilst Andy did his Ali G impression at the Leeds test match this summer. Our kids are greatest of friends ("the kids at the shows will have...")
The spirit of this community is quite incredible. Even though my life has become ever more hectic, I love being able to pick up these threads. (And still wish I could understand more about the Blondette's PhD).
I went to the the sold out THS gig in Islington on 3 hours notice in September courtesy of the amazing Wealdstone. It wasn't until I was an hour into my 2 hour train journey that I remembered to ask if it was ok to stay at his that night (or more exactly - following several drinks with the boys at their hotel - from 4am until 10am the next day).
I lost Keith at the gig but had the usual wild time down the front with Caz. LilHannah where were you ?!
Jamesjesus jangleton remains a mine of useful information about drinking locations in London. I'm not sure about whether he ever deserved to be threatened with shin kicking.
Was it only February when Matt, that girl form the states who was travelling and I found ourselves watching Chillout Tent and Knuckles in wolverhampton (recently voted one ofthe 10 worst cities in the world by lonely planet but I had a blast there)?
John Dill doesn't know that I regularly - and I think, effectively, in the sense of out puzzling the other side - use Hold Steady lyrics when writing to oppoents in hostile insolvency litigation (I blatantly pinched John's "Your client thinks he is hardcore; he might want the scars, but he won't want the war" after Ben had told me about it). Whilst at it, john's story of the barmaid who had never heard of Led Zeppelin and raised the point with Tad is one of my favourites ever.
Even though, we often don't hook up for months on end, its dead easy to pick up and have good times with some of the great people here - a constant inspiration.
Take it easy.
PS I'm fairly sure 2010 will see me going stateside to see the boys, but its difficult to work out where to go to meet as many of the Scene as possible.
PPS Note to self. Check in at the boards more often. Why didn't I check the board on the day of the greatest band playing an extended acoustic set at my favourite bar in Leeds?
And we had a cracking day at the FA cup game the other week, although you forgot our subsequent trip out in Manchester when we took on all comers at the pub quiz.

Count me in with those who consider it one of the best THS shows they have ever seen. (even if personally, i would have loved to have seen bangng camp in the setlist).
Thought that bobby was awesome and tad's solo in heaven was utterly remarkable. The whole band just seem to have upped their performance to another level once again.
great to see everyone - so much joy indeeed

Hannah - I'm now going to be at the End of the road festival so will hook up with you (and indeed you aunt) there. However, the Brudenell is one heck of a venue - seedy, but aces. I strongly suggest you'll have a blast.

Damm you Hold Steady for being so utterly fantastic in Cambridge that there was little option than to take an American style road trip to Falmouth. Its fair to say, not many bands to make the effort to travel sdown there, but i think we were all struck by the sheer beauty of the place and the mellow vibe.
The venue - an old style Pavilion. The only time I've known the boys play a venue with its own bandstand. It would have been great for them to play on the bandstand, but I guess one amazing acoustic gig in a week at Leeds was enough.
The hall had approx 300 people, many of whom did not know words or all the songs, but who were well up for it (the last few bands to paly the venue were a tribute to Queen and the like). There's no doubt there were loads of converts by the end.
Of course they stormed it.
And as ever, the generosity of spirit and kindness of the band and crew is simply exemplary. They can't be thanked enough.
Failed to get a setlist, but loads of gems ,including (in no order) stay positive as opener, citrus, most people are djs, and many others. Wealdstone will no doubt have other points to raise.
A couple of particular memories :-
Franz taking a seat at the side of the stage to let Uncle Gales' free reign to play the keyboards - and the look on Galen's face when he realised the keyboard sudenly looked, metaphorically, 10 miles long long (or as someone said later, "Galen's one finger playing did not really equip him to deal with the snarling cobras on that keyboard").
Finn - "...this song is about the same subject as the last one.." (introducing "you can make him like you" straght after girls go for status)
As Ben said earlier in the week - "I can't go to the Mojo gig for work and money reasons (put me down as a maybe)". It was that spirit which persuaded me to go. I got back at 7am this morning.
As someone once said, it hurts but its worth it.

As Wealdstone says, that gig was indeed quite something - he forgot to say there was a rare outing for Chillout tent too. And always great to hear Resurrection. It will certianly live in the memory.
Its always worth travelling to see THS as there are number of great things going on (Knuckles in Wolverhampton in December was a good example).
Bobby has gone very bleach blonde indeed.
It was a very good atmosphere, and the band were as tight as ever. And as ever, they absolutely stormed it. I just wish Falmouth was a bit nearer than the best part of 5 hours drving away (and that drive was not ona bank holiday friday. Oh well, next time I guess).

I've almost forgotten how to rock out at a gig. But I'll be there tonight and I know Wealdstne will be too. And I'm sure the boys will be as great as ever.
I'm a bit worried about an early stage time as the boys wre on at 8.30 in Leeds last night. so I'll try and stop in at the Earl of Rock on Cherry Hinton Road as suggested by Masha (will be good to see you) - if not, see you at the front.

Dear Unified Scene,
I am totally gutted that I will not be able to see you at the Leeds gig as I had planned, given that work means i have to be hundreds of miles away and I cannot sort the logisitics. A great pity as I haven't sen a number of you for ages.
I would suggest the Adelphi pub (pre-game prior to Leeds Irish Centre last year) as its still effortlessly cool, and its still rather hand for the Cockpit.
I hear Mojo is quite good too... I am planning on the Cambridge gig instead - quite a big consolation, but still very disappointed not to hook up with you all.
Take it easy out there.

Janet,
I know how awesome joelle is only via these boards - her little gift packages have been ace and she has baiscally been my busienss partner in the sense of joint shirt operations. Total trust, respect, sincerity and kindness - and yet I've never met her.
you on the other hand have met her and must know how great she is - why not follow her suggestion ? Quite simply I'd say you should follow her advice and come to the party.
You are bound to meet a number of people from here in the flesh anyway if you are at future ths gigs.
This (or the earlier incarnations of it) are the only board i've ever posted upon so I can understand you might be nervous. But I've had some amazing experiences as a direct result of these boards - all of which are postitive.

Brendan,
3 questions
Where is the best gig to fly to from the UK to see THS in April (ie it needs alcohol/sights/memorable stuff generally/US members/sensibly priced airfares, etc) ?
Why should i not delay until later in the year and hope for a couple of nights in New york (see above),
At which gigs can I expect to meet Sean Joelle JWD, WD Heidi V et al?
Loving your work.

thanks to all invovled for a lot of fun - Cf singing about cricket was worth the ticket in itself. thanks to Jane for sorting same.
one of my colleagues suggested that I might like to make a bed under my desk in the office as I've been so generally tired and..er... "jaded" this past 10 days. She just smiled and looked kinda' vague when I told her we'd been involved in some complicated things.
as ever the kindness and postivity of all concerned does credit to all concerned.

I'll be there, and will have my shirt.
Its fair to say my plans are fluid at the moment so am unsure about venue for the pre-game other than it will be most probably be on Cowley Road.
I'm not sure if Manish and others from the boards will be coming from london but I'm kind of expecting to see some familiar faces. I'll have 6-10 people with me anyway

I'll be there. I am totally bombed with work and will have to drive 250 miles to be there, so can't guarantee big hands (though I'll try my best), but will see you all down the front.
Its the town where Stay Positive (the song) was written after all.
