I confirm this did in fact happen - a proper report follows when I have chance (currently going to all of the rest of the UK gigs this week). Not quite sure why the photo has come out sideways, but you get the idea - if you double click on the photo then it brings out to a bigger size, properly orientated. You'll see Bobby was using my kitchen stool as part of his kit last Saturday - I'm wondering if it might eventually be inducted into some kind of rock n roll hall of fame. At very least it should find its' way to a Hard Rock Cafe I guess. Just to reiterate (it can't be said enough times) - this was a very special day and the band/crew are incredible. The gigs I've seen this week have seen me run out of superlatives - they are on brilliant form.

Dear Unified Scene,
Very sorry that I did not have time to invite you to the acoustic set in my living room, but it only became possible with almost zero notice. By the time it became a reality, it was midnight and I wanted to watch the band be awesome at Liverpool sound city.
There are loads of people who would have been nailed on to come, but sadly I do not have a lear jet upon standby to cross the atlantic and bring them over - a number of the Van Jura family, JWD, Rich & Polly, Brendan, Heidi, etc spring immediately to mind.
However, once people have recover from hangovers, etc, there will be loads of photos, videos circulated and (above all stories to be told) whenever people gather together and celebrate the awesome redemptive power of rock n roll..
Happy to confirm - as will the videos, photos, etc that the band, management and crew are unutterably kind, warm, talented, professional and generally brilliant.
Sincere and humble thanks again to them.

Alex - I'd second the comments above.
The band and management are really busy, but incredibly kind and generous with their time and efforts - if they have made a commitment, have no doubts whatsoever it will be fulfilled. You may have a number of emails with them to finalise arrangements (and be polite, but gentle email reminders do no harm).
I'm sure you'll have an amazing story to share soon....

I'm in Liverpool - the venue is a converted warehouse type place which already looks busy (this is part of Liverpool's Sound City festival which looks like loads of fun).
First THS Uk gig in nearly 3 years - was it Islington or Chalk farm last one? (OR a festival?)
THS on stage 1am tIl 1.45am apparently - no doubt as amazing as ever.
clearly Leeds tomorrow will be awesome and Manchester with the usual big hands trip tremendous. Only issue is Manchester followed by train trip to Brighton - careful hangover management will be required...

I was rather hoping that Phils fan can send Susan to England for the full tour at the start of May, so she might be over-stretched to go VA.
(Maybe we can send a postcard or something).

Hey CB,
Welcome to the boards.
I'd suggest Stringer/Eric/other more regular posters than me on these boards may be able to help.
Even if London does not work out - but mowing the power of these Pretty sure that will be ok - my view is that Big Hands, Manchester will be the best gig of the UK trip. Only a guess, mind.

My box of goodies arrived today - I like it a lot, especially the hoodie and the bottle opener.
The Polaroid is a bit surreal, but rather lovely - hopefully, the image follows. It could be either a wall or a floor, but helpfully has the label "Stage", in case of doubt.
Oh and the vinyl plays perfectly.
(only joking - it doesn't).

Rich - your work is consistently brilliant. I love that picture on this thread and just wish you were coming to the UK so there could be a proper set of pictures/videos about what happens over here.
(Though of course, I would not expect to emerge from any such photos with much credit).

Keep yourself warm - Frightened Rabbit (for the lyrics more than the title, but also because it is awesome) Whiskey in the jar - Thin Lizzy Have a drink on me - AC/DC (or if you can find the cover by THS from Montaclair NYE 2012 then even better) Headlong into the Abyss - We are Augustines

Dear Stringer and the Sea,
I suggest we all buy beers for each other .
And for some randoms in the gig.
And for Whitespeck.
Not so much Bank holiday Monday as Drink Holiday monday.

Mr Whitespeck,
If I'm anywhere near you at the show (and likely will be as its' tiny), I'll be buying you a beer - or possibly three as that's how these things go. I'm sure we'll find each other.

Loads of amazing times and experiences but 6 off the top of my head:-
- in york when there were barely 100 people in somewhere as small as the average living room. We helped the band haul the gear in and out. Finn's guitar knocked my pint of guinness out of my hand during the show as it was so tiny.
- Carlisle 2 months later - again a tiny venue - where I fist met Ben and the band asked him to go on tour to the States. Finn left his bag and lyric book in my hotel room - how I managed not to read it took a considerable effort of will but that would have been prying
- Manchester - so many ace times, but the night Ben did his stage dive when he landed on his face (and I see Tad's photo on Rich's video) stands out.
Montclair - as described above.
- MHOW last month - echo what Brendan says (though the band did not sing at my gf). I had forgotten about the video booth. However, buying Jess the mercy girl drinks was rewarded with a boys and girls poster (and loads of others).
- Harrisburg last month - so great to meet so many people. I'm still unsure which of the people I met was my favourite - at least as many hugs as great songs. And I found some confetti in my boots only last week. Last Confetti.
Look forward to doing it all again in May.

Hey Mr Whitespeck,
Notice this is your first post - welcome to the boards; a splendid community.
Very interested to hear why you had to pay Way over the price for tickets that sold out on the pre-sale.

I'm there with a plus 1.
In fact I'm intending to do all of the UK dates this run - though Glasgow may be a stretch. As someone said on the old boards - seeing the band in smaller venues like these is basically the equivalent of free money.

totally love Records and tapes - have done since I first heard it live in bethlehem 14 months ago.
Also entirely agree that Look Alive could have been on Separation Sunday.
Think both could have made the album quite easily.

Joel & Elisa - thanks so much for posting that - absolutely fantastic stuff.
I've thought for a long time that the wonderful experiences with THS just keep on improving (from a very high start point). The generosity of spirit is captured by your post and your audio.

Absolutely superb, both article and video.
Some very sweet people featured.
I heard the story about the credit card in the Guardian article. I also heard it may have been an example of the whole stay positive thing being taken towards financial recklessness.

A wonderful night, wonderfully captured with some lovely details. You have a very fine eye for such details.
(I appear to have something in my eye every time I watch this).

I'm going to most all of these UK gigs, but as London and Manchester are the only dedicated THS gigs, those will be probably the longest sets.
Manchester has been a reliably great place to see THS in that same venue over the years. London will be good too though.
I've always been told -and my experiences at T in the Park reflect - that Scottish audiences leave nothing on the table so Glasgow might be rather ace.
The American gigs last week confirmed that THS are a wonderful live proposition wherever.

Rich - as well as being amazingly kind, warm-hearted and generous you are also incredibly talented. Totally brilliant.
At hburg in particular I simply do not know how you managed to concentrate and take such great shots at the end of the night when we had enjoyed so many beers. However, I'm very very glad you did as the photos are sensational and fully capture the joy of the night.

Glad to say Keith and I were able to chauffeur Eric to H'burg and back, fix him up with hotel room and the Van Jura family took him into the gig. He also got to hang out Finn on the night of the MHOW gig, so it all worked eventually for him as he had not been planning to go to Hburg.
Eric cheered me up by confirming someone else other than me had bought him the drink in Wburg which got him thrown out.
I am very jet-lagged but very happy and have some incredible memories.
I too have a beer/confetti layer on my boots from the show. I've also had 5 showers since H'burg and then still found some confetti in my left ear this morning. My girlfriend asked why Keith had not mentioned it to me at any point since H'burg as it was quite obviously visible to her. I forgot to mention that Keith had lost his glasses.
I'm looking at those April dates longingly...but the UK ones in May are nailed on.

Dear everyone,
You are truly amazing people - kind, charming, warm and whilst the band were astonishing last night (again), I think you people matched them. I'm 3600 miles from home, but it feels like being home from home.
I already knew the Scene were great, but the Van Jura family are simply wonderful. From the pet piglet staying in the hotel to buying 20 beers and a whisky for Bill and then getting the round for free as "we do not allow Mr Van Jura to pay for drinks in this building". (I'm having a separate game of which Van Jura do I like most - it is a sliding scale of wonderfulness).
More when I'm home and have some more perspective, but I really hope some of you can come to the gigs in England in May - the Leeds one could be rather special - and I can do my very best to make you as welcome as you've made us.
Much love and respect to you all.
PS you rage hard.
PPS just found confetti in my hair - I'm guessing it will take about 2 weeks to get rid of it. So much joy indeed.
