Don't know Manchester that well, imagine we'll be in the SU bar by the venue.

Hell yeah, coming from Sheffield for this one, can't wait.
Thirsty Scholar is a decent little bar with good beer. It's just underneath Oxford Street station, so not too far. Kro and Big Hands are both close too.

So excited for this, feels like the first time I saw them again. Proper stressed at work at the minute as well with deadlines, exams and coursework marking so this will most definitely be required raging.
Four-thirty.

Had big traffic problems so never got there. Saw some of you, Ross etc. when I got in but it was just about 'show time' so didn't get a chance to say hi. Next time!

P.S. I was previously Tonto on here so have met some of you, Howard etc. I sorted out a batch of Unified Scene T-shirts a few years ago for some of you.

Well that was pretty great from where i was! Awesomely tiny venue, think its a great idea for bands like THS to keep it small and focused when touring overseas, wish more bands would do it. Really happy with the setlist, Multitude of casualties was an unexpected treat! Thought some of the new stuff received a strangely subdued response but i really enjoyed it. Thought the band were really into it and the crowd right up the front was a joy to be a part of, mostly...
Something that did put a bit of a downer on the night was a couple of girls on the front row who were ruining the atmos. They were stood on the rail, and from the start they werent moving, interacting with the crowd or singing along, which is kinda fine, you pay your money and take your choice but you have to know that if youre in that area, contact with other people is inevitable. I saw a unified scenester (didnt catch his number) accidentally bump into them, as did everyone around them as they were static objects in a moving crowd, who was then kicked and abused by these two. The same thing happened to my brother later, he was violently backheeled in the legs when he accidentally made contact with one of them. Craig saw what happened and you could see he was upset, he actually told them to stop at one point.
Anyway that incident aside, i loved the night, felt like i was amongst friends, and cant wait to do it again.

That was awesome. I came out covered in sweat, beer and from where I was stood probably quite a bit of Craig's too, nasty. Loved the setlist, the songs from the new album all sound great live. Spinners and Oaks were particular highlights and gave me enough time to get my breath back! I was in the middle pretty close to the front (I was the tall guy!) and like violentredvisions, noticed those girls at the front. I have absolutely no time for people like that. You're at the front of a high energy rock show in which the lead singer practically begs you to jump around and go crazy (touching people you don't even know... yo) so you have no right to complain. If you don't like getting bumped into then move further back or to the side. One of the girls went to hit one guy which was totally unnecessar. My brother put his arm around him, pulled him away and threw him into the middle and told him to ignore them, that's what the Unified Scene is about.
Also, shout out to the guy in Footage that bought me a pint after the show after spotting my t-shirt. I didn't catch his name but he might be on the forums, The Hold Steady really do have some brilliant fans. All genuinely nice people, restores your faith in humanity a little bit. I just hope the band don't leave it as long before coming to Manchester again.

I have always taken newcomers to the band to small venues e.g. the Cockpit in Leeds or the smaller Academies e.g. Manchester and Liverpool as I think their impact is astonishing close up and people do tend to come out with a massive smile on their face! But I also saw them support Counting Crows at Liverpool and at the Isle of Wight and let's face it a great band is a great band.
Have to agree that some of the new songs were received rather strangely but that didn't detract from a great night.
I must be into double figures now as regards shows I've attended and last night was again up there.
I've never been able to hang around after due to work commitments but will be doing my best to put that right next time - I will just have to stay over!
