Sometimes spotify gets confused and plays a local version of a song. So it's possible you have that show downloaded already? Oh maybe. I do have a bootleg of that show on my hard drive. A bit weird for spotify to pick up on that version but that might be the explanation.

Was just listening to Deluxe edition of SS on spotify. Not sure if other people have the same 'problem' but Resurrection is a live version instead of the studio version. But it's notable to me because it's a recording from their 2010 Ottawa Bluesfest show which was my first THS concert. Right before the 'walk on back' part, you can hear Craig mention that they're doing a signing at the merch booth. I remember meeting the band that night at the aforementioned signing. I wore a Wintersleep shirt and Craig asked me if they were good because they were touring together soon.
Anyway, not sure how this version got on Spotify but it was a nice surprise.

On the note of the massive nights beer -- does anyone want to split a 4 pack? I want to bring some home but don't need to take all four (to paraphrase chillout tent).

Hey Camie, I also couldn't find info on where sellers were supposed to send info so leaving it here and have limited time this morning before flying over. Have an extra (now) 3-day pass for thurs/fri/sat including Friday soundcheck. Person above me in the thread gets priority obviously, but if s/he sells, then I've got an extra. Face value, prorated since Wednesday ticket no use now. Send me a dm. Would meet you at Brooklyn bowl tonight around 630 to arrange meet up. I'll be on a plane until 4 so will reply to messages then.

Do anyone have any more information about that Massive Nights beer announced in an e-mail yesterday? I understood that it will be on tap at Brooklyn Bowl, but is the can available for purchase anywhere? Check the hanging hills brewery facebook page. They listed a few places getting cans. I think beer karma is the closest to the venue but there are others.

I really dig both of them. A Snake in the Shower has a bit of an Ascension Blues kinda vibe. Think they'll bring horn players in for Entitlement Crew @ Brooklyn Bowl?

I think Be Honest is my standout so far (other than God in Chicago, obviously). Both are excellent. Birds Trapped in the Airport kind of makes me think of what The Postal Service would sound like if you swapped Craig for Ben Gibbard.
Re: the experimentation. It isn't really gelling for me yet. Mostly, the album sounds a bit more disjointed than FITF, which really seemed to me a pretty coherent statement. Maybe I just would have preferred a different song ordering or something? I don't know. I feel like Screenwriter's School and Sometimes She Doesn't Call Back would have fit in better here than a couple of the other songs. I'll have to report back once I've let this sink in a bit more.

Yes, I was making a (stupid) joke about my lack of coolness. I have a playlist ready to rock. It's just "Cowboy" by Kid Rock on repeat 150 times. Jk it's a good one with DBT Sturgill Simpson, classic rock, car seat headrest, other hip music. I was just making a dumb joke too. Hope the show was/will be excellent!

Also, I'm supposed to play music before and after Craig plays apparently (like from the speakers). Uncool to play THS stuff right? Need a faux pas judgment. You should just play the spotify playlist Craig made for the Brooklyn bowl shows.

What a great three nights. Huge thanks to all the band, of course. Thanks to Galen for some mean piano playing, Bobby for running a great post-show bar, Franz for drinking wine straight from the bottle, Steve for eating chips like a madman, Tad for busting out the double-neck and turning down Steve's guitar, and Craig for bringing us so much joy, night after night.
Thanks also to Brendan, for bringing a double order of love and respect and really unifying the scene. Thanks to the many of you who I saw night after night who made the long waits fly by.
Huge thanks for reprinting those posters. And I'll second the thanks to Joe's pizza who provided some excellent late night slices.

Day 3 is probably the So So Glos, as they are the founders of Brooklyn DIY space Shea Stadium. Beach Slang would be amazing for Thursday! I had originally thought that Friday was Japandroids, but So So Glos probably make more sense. I've got my tickets to see Japandroids and Craig when they play Terminal 5 in February, so I'll just have to wait a few more months. Someone on Twitter guessed that Thursday was Laura Stevenson, which makes sense with the given clues (jellyfish etc).

Yes. There is a different opener every night. Get there on time. Don't ask questions. Be in the front row. Trust. I'm surprised there isn't already speculation about the hint THS posted on twitter respecting the first night opener: an outline of the State of New Jersey. Since Wednesday is the only night I don't have tickets for, I hope the openers on Wednesday are NOT Titus. Ditto. Love titus, no wednesday tickets.

Our Whole Lives might be my favorite Hold Steady song. I still maintain that HIW is a very unfairly maligned record. It's definitely my favorite HiW song. Good hook, lots of great little bits in the lyrics ("making guitars out of tennis rackets," "Gonna make a pre-emptive strike, hit the 5:30 Mass every Saturday night," "I didn't know you could dance like that; I'm gonna have to ask you to take two steps back"). Better than most of Stay Positive, too, though I'm not sure it's competitive with the best of Sep Sunday and BAGIA. Would be very psyched to hear it live, regardless. From the sounds of Craig's interview on Steven Hyder's podcast, he doesn't think much of HiW outside of the Weekenders and Sweet Part. It's too bad because I think if they had included the bonus tracks (Touchless and Ascension Blues) instead of a few songs in the first half, then HiW would be better than Stay Positive. A few of the songs (Barely Breathing, Slight Discomfort) actually strike me as stronger examples of the 'mature THS' sound that emerges on SP. But that's just like, my opinion, man.

Myself +1, for all three nights. Also coming from Vancouver... we're almost at 2% of the crowd already. Anyway, tried to snag soundcheck passes with no luck -- barely managed to grab the three night pass at all but I stayed positive and it worked out.

We've had Denver and Chicago clues the last two days which led my girlfriend to suggest riotfest, which might also explain the delay in waiting until the 18th. Riot Fest makes total sense, especially because they're into the "[Band] plays [Album that made them famous]" format. Selfishly, I hope that's not the case, though. I'd really love a club show, since their last Denver date was a hour-long festival set. But I'll take what I can get! Yeah, but last time they played a club show at Chicago riotfest so hope they do that again if it is riotfest that they're playing.

Just one last thing, about the "pinned - down at the Party Pit" vs "pinned down, at the Party Pit". I buy your take on it. But before the "pretty sure we kissed" part, Craig stops at "pinned down": Sailed away on such separate trips And she got pinned down at the party pit Sailed away on such separate trips And she got pinned down... And I'm pretty sure we kissedThat could indicate that "pinned down" is actually a fair reding, in opposite to "pinned... down at the Party Pit". Just wanted to add that while I remember it. For what it's worth, here's the urban dictionary entry for pinned: "The feeling you have when you have crossed the "having fun" phase of doing cocaine into the "a new source of natural energy" phase of it. May also be used to describe the feeling obtained from speed, but with speed, the "having fun" phase is skipped." Which makes the high reading of pinned correct (as also backed up by for Boston and Chillout Tent). I'm wondering if, in following the notion that Craig is always trying to add layers, "pinned" is high and "pinned down" is, at least in the last line, a play on words on the common usage of being stuck or trapped (in this case, being pinned down is the result of being pinned or a love of being pinned). I mean, at this point they're sailing off on separate trips with Mary staying in the same town and the narrator heading off to school (right?). Also, thanks for the note on the pipe. I still think the wording is funny ("a pipe" rather than a piece of pipe), but maybe it's an intentional bit of misdirection premised on the notion that most listeners, caught up in thinking about drugs and booze, will assume its a smoking device... And I didnt doubt that someone had possibly made such a projector at the time, more so just curious if there was a source out there to confirm. But maybe it was one of those things that was passed along by word of mouth etc until more recently.
