You lot still arguing about this DMB thing? Funny how DMB get all this flack (in the States). Seems to me that they have forged a unique path of their own for, what is it, 20 years and should be applauded loudly for doing so, whether you like their music or not. They've become successful and just got on with making albums and playing live shows to people who want to see them. What's wrong with that? As for saying the Stones are a more valid support for THS because they are are deemed 'cool'... you are having a laugh? This is bunch of sextegenarians who haven't released a decent record for 30 years FFS.

lol @ SMJ.
I see that fn has been wading through all this, poor chap... It constantly amazes me just HOW MUCH these guys tour. Exhausts me just thinking about it.

I just went on to itunes and checked out some DMB to see why they're so hated. OK they were only 30 second snippets. But I get the hate. They sound like the MOR version of Simply Red. That said I heard nothing offensive there. Just not my bag. If THs were Touring With some Nazi Band, or Ted Nugent or something that didn't fit their ideology I'd raise an eyebrow. But a multi million selling MOR American Plod Rock Band? Throw a rock in the air. Coulda been Nickleback, 3 Doors Down, Train, Counting Crows, Toad The Wet Sprocket, The Eagles... So What?
If THS tour with Guns N' Roses I'll be more shocked.

If THS tour with Guns N' Roses I'll be more shocked. you have no idea how happy this would make me. i'm getting a little weepy just imagining it. i mean, i wouldn't envy the guys putting up with axl for a week. but maybe they would get onstage for a THS/GNR Welcome to the Jungle

I'd like this a lot.

I hear ya. It's real easy to put your foot in it on stuff like that though. GNR sure ain't what it used to be. In fact I think a THS support slot would be the only thing that would get me buying a ticket. I find the idea of a Replacement being on guitar duties very odd I must say.

DMB are boring G N R are not boring GnR were really exciting for about 18 months and then became a bloated excuse for Rose's ego. Slash was wise to jump ship. Chinese Democracy was hardly worth the wait was it? "Boring" is pretty complementary when decribing that bloated, tuneless effort.

haha, gotta say i'm with andy on this. guns'n'roses brought out one good album and then swiftly vanished up axl's arse, not to mention that axl rose is notoriously a racist, bigoted cunt and dave matthews, as far as i can tell, is a really nice man who happens to make music which people who want g'n'r-style gaudiness aren't very interested in. neither am i, as it happens, but that's beside the point because i'm not interested in g'n'r either.
and "DMB are boring G N R are not boring" seems to be about the most childish, lazy point i've seen made on here for a while. including the shit i talk to wind people up.

haha, fair enough, their fans do like to party. there are few big bands who won't have their haters, though, whether it's guns'n'roses, dmb, rolling stones, counting crows, oasis, radiohead, coldplay, mercury rev...and if the hold steady land a support like this where they get to be comfortable and eat well and get paid and rock out in front of loads of people who probably haven't seen them before, that's really not such an awful thing. there'll always be gigs with other bands on the bill we don't like (i get a bit bummed about their uk supports sometimes), but if the band deliver onstage they can play with whoever they want. the ticket prices can be a bit of a shitter for a half-hour set if you're not interested the band they're opening for, but it's not like they never do headline tours.
you know, i've kind of warmed to coldplay. i didn't like them much at first but i think they're progressing. and mercury rev never really lived up to my expectations. haha.

Well said Mike. G&R in their prime were a thrilling will-all-be-dead-soon catch em while you can incendiary mess of a band. But then these guys (and their fans) have lived on that one album period for 20 years now, which is pretty pathetic.
