Who DOESN'T have an e-crush on mike? He's got all that grammatical knowhow. That makes everyone hot, right? (Don't think I didn't see how you deflected that one onto me, Mike. Tut!)
Meanwhile, I feel more people should have crushes on me. I am a desirable option of devotion, kids - good cleavage, and I will give you lots of compliments. And maybe cups of tea, if you live nearby and don't take up stalkerish behaviour.

I reckon I'd give you both a good shoeing in a grammar-off. Am happy to set you both a subbing test, and will publish the results.

Which paper? Or at PA copytakers in Leeds?

yeah, at PA in leeds! i'm one of six full-time copytakers left in the country, which makes it sound elite but really it's just a dying profession.

Oh James, grammar-off, that's just dirty talk. *adds you to my hit-on list* (Also: proof that love can conquer all - my boyfriend's spelling is really not very good, but I love him all the same. Remarkable! )

As for Adele, she definitely hasn't found her own sound yet - so why does she have a record contract?! S'probably the Winehouse effect. " Lets sign up some more female solo artists, man - I mean look at that Amy Winehouse - female solo artists are what's cookin' right now" Probably.

On that note, has anyone noticed that Koob gets more and more handsome lately? He's a fine looking man. I do like men in black tie, though. Or suits in general. Good stuff. Yes. Agreed. Me too. Ditto. Yes.

What is a subbing test? It's not an expression we have in Canada, to my (extraordinarily vast and comprehensive) knowledge.

"Subbing test" does sound like the kind of thing a domme friend of mine would do to test out a potential new "friend"...

Seasick Steve was a bit of a gimmick really, though he was fun to watch.
Offical iTunes chart Hold Steady album tracker:84th Alternative singles chart: SIM 91st, SP 59th Alternative album chart:20th
Pretty nifty. But I do with that they'd played a song with a solo in.

Ah. This is quite clearly a step that has been eliminated from North American journalism.

As for Adele, she definitely hasn't found her own sound yet - so why does she have a record contract?! S'probably the Winehouse effect. " Lets sign up some more female solo artists, man - I mean look at that Amy Winehouse - female solo artists are what's cookin' right now" Probably. She got signed by XL, because Richard Russell liked her (and thought she'd make some money, of course). XL has a very wilful signing policy, so I wouldn't put that straight down to the Winehouse effect. You will see more women solo artists this year because a) Radio 1 has quietly told the labels it isn't very interested in bands this year. It's bored by Pigeon View Fratelli Enemies and bands that have no imagination. b) The more eagle-eyed among you will have spotted a recession underway. Combined with the increasing unwillingness of people to pay for music, that means it is less economically viable for a label to launch bands (it costs around £500,000 for a major to launch a young, new band to first single), which frequently fail. It's cheaper to sign solo singers, because often they can be backed by electronica, and if they want actual instrumental backing, labels can get away with session fees rather than supporting a full-time band. c) Women are perceived as "cooler" than men in 2009. That's not conjecture; that's actually what's happening. Now we'll see whether the public is biting, in light of the frankly underwhelming public response to Lykke Li, Ladyhawke et al in 2008. Mike and Theblondette will have noticed the correct use of "bored by" (not "bored of"), "that" (not "which", when defining - one of the most common grammatical errors), frequently ("not regularly"), "which" (not "that", when informing), and a semi-colon.

Oh, be still my heart. I love semicolons! Sassy. (I spend a lot of time trying to make undergrads realise that commas and semicolons are not interchangeable...)
