Hiya. I had some spare time today at work, setting up some coursework activities for a student... they have to mix/produce something on Logic, so we needed something already recorded for them to work on mixing. So me and another teacher knocked together this cover of Chips Ahoy... www.yousendit.com/download/UmNJN3RWaTFVVGxMWEE9PQ I play guitar/piano and sing. It's a bit ropey but hey, have a listen.

Hey - any UK USers use Spotify? Any UK USers wanna share some playlists?!
For those in the USA, this is an amazing application that lets you browse music in the same way last.fm does, except the library is bigger with more albums and they pretty much stream immediately, like a massive jukebox. It's way too addictive.
I'll post a playlist up later... I'm going to the pub for a bit now.

I clicked on it and bought two copies. And Neil Young's Zuma.
Thanks!

thanks hoodrat!
yeah, basically the shitstorm I expected started today about the whole thing... this person is now trying to publicly undermine me because they've managed to concoct the idea that they got fired from the job because I was ready to do it for free. Which isn't true.
Pah, it's pathetic. Part of me thinks if they considered me a friend in the first place they wouldn't draw this conclusion in the first place. I'm just gonna lay it out, let them have their say and see what happens.

Hey. So, basically, I have put myself in a situation where I've done something pretty shitty through no fault of my own and hurt a friend.
This friend is the sort of person who concocts conspiracies, theories and convinces themselves they're true and gets themselves all upset about it.
So, apologising is difficult.
Basically the condensed version of the story is that I'm now doing a writing job my friend left/got fired from. Unlike my friend, I'm not getting paid as it's not really a lot of work - I'm doing it for experience. I was supposed to be doing it anonymously until I found the time to tell my friend that I was doing their job... but my hand's been forced because my name got printed with the article this week, despite my wishes that it were to remain anonymous.
SO it looks as if I haven't made time to discuss it with my friend - even though I was making time... until my name got printed. If you see what I mean.
How do you even go about mending something like this?!
I feel like a scab.

I noticed there was a Mr Softee truck in the background. I read somewhere YouTube has been pulling down vids with trademarks in the background. Mr Softee vs. The State of YouTube, a court near you, 2009. Vlogs! Yes! Brilliant idea. Let's share the scene.

I have never had money either. My paychecks for the next 12 months are already spent. I haven't bought anything I need for years. Being a student put me in a massive amount of debt. Still though, if she asks don't tell her that I'm living hand-to-mouth.

Warren Zevon (alive-era) would do a good job of Killer Parties.
A local band I know cover Lord, I'm Discouraged.
I would dearly love to hear ol' Brooooce doing Two-Handed Handshake.

Neil Young's rendition of Helpless was probably mind-blowing because Neil Young was out of his tree on coke... Apparently they had to edit out the white powder stuck to his nose!
Great film.
RE the "why aren't there any bands like this today" question... well, there are, but they're mostly always out on the road so you might not get to hear them unless you go to shows.

yeah, i was just kidding around really...you're the perfect age to enjoy it, so for you i'm sure it will be ace! in a few years, though, you might not be so excited about the idea of camping in the mud and barely getting any sleep and living off tinned rice pudding for a weekend just for the privilege of wading through tens of thousands of middle-class cunts who think they're being super-wild by getting fucked on pills and dancing around with their flaming poi as the latest crappy electropop band-de-jour drifts across a stinking field. I saw The Rasmus, The Darkness, post-quite good Funeral For A Friend, Thursday and A at Leeds Festival. All my friends did was smoke weed all day and get wasted, then set their tents on fire on Sunday night. I think I went to bed before midnight every night wishing it would all end. It bugged me that instead of paying nearly £250 each (all told) we could have done nearly exactly the same thing for absolutely fuck-all in the woods with a stereo, and listened to music we actually digged. I was 17 at the time. Everyone else seemed to enjoy it though. Heineken Festival in Roundhay Park in Leeds... now THAT was a festival.

Fucking hell, check out how lazy the journalism is!
"The Hold Steady clearly dig Springsteen, who clearly puts a lot into his live shows. Same goes for Craig Finn & Co. Springsteen's released a bunch of live albums and as you likely know, the Hold Steady are releasing their first, along with a live DVD, at the beginning of April."
formula for writing token Hold Steady copy:
snappy original content = springsteen + hold steady

Stay Positive is a masterpiece. I love the melancholy air of nostalgia.
I can't wait to hear more B-Sides and re-live the BaGiA live experience on the DVD.
