OK, so as he travels around and people start getting their mitts on it, I think it's appropriate to have a thread dedicated to talking about the recordings. What do we think?
I am so glad that "Cease-fire" is on it, for one. I love the accordion on "Dead Sailors;" I've always been torn on whether I like it better on piano or squeezebox so I am glad that there is a nice mix. I am glad that "Subway Wall" didn't receive too much of a makeover, I like it plain and simple. The synth on "Nightratsong" during "cash in your chips while you can, the pot is getting full" WIGGED me out the first time, but I am getting used to it.
Favorite lyrics? "I'm too tired to turn out the light, no strength to start a fight, but it's alright" "Sometimes I ain't quite right, it ain't the same as being wrong" "What do I know about love except love songs?"

"confessions of an ineffective casanova" have some of my most favorite dirty lyrics ever to be penned. it also has the best attention-grabbing, scene-setting first line to a song i have heard in quite awhile.

I've been listening to the cd all weekend and I think it's great. I'm hearing Tom Waits, John Darnielle, Springsteen, just a bit of THS (when Quiet Where I Lie starts I'm ready to sing For Boston), along with the crooners I just can't name. My wife was irritated with me because I brought it to work today- make that 2 votes for Franz!

I can't get this until I get paid again, which will be on Wednesday. I'm pretty excited to hear it, though.

Just bought this online...but I'm a liner note geek. Just don't have room for CD's anymore. Did Franz write all of the songs?
Could someone take a look for me?
Loving it, by the way.

Jack mostly. jack terricloth wrote the lyrics for "dead sailors" and "note on a subway wall". the liner notes co-credit andrew eisenberg on the music for "do we not live in dreams" and "note on a subway wall".

The duhnuhnuhs at the end of Nightratsong are an awful lot like the bahbahbahs on Gin Soaked Boy by The Divine Comedy too! Awesome record, I love all the new electric guitar. Cheers for that link, nicollet. I can't order one til next week.
