I doubt if they will do the tour without keys. Dan couldn't make the dates in Toronto and Ottawa last summer, and they had a fill-in guy play keys - even more in the background than Dan was.
My dream line-up would be to have Franz back AND keep Steve as second guitar. Not only have the keys suffered in the mix since Franz left,. but his backing vocals are badly missed too. Tad just doesn't have the range and on some songs the harmony/backing vocals Franz used to do have been dropped completely.
Plus, of course, his stage presence would be a bonus, as Craig now has to carry the entire visual aspect of the live show on his own.
'Tis only a dream though, as I don't think Tad would ever have Franz back.

According to a tweet by Rob Sheffield, no keys tonight. Not sure how I feel about that.

Hi everybody. I just lurk here but wanted to chime in since I just got home from tonight's show at Music Hall of Williamsburg.
And yep - no keys. Kinda weird but the band was, of course, amazing. I was surprised to find that for the majority of the show I didn't miss it as much as I thought I would.
Sure hope it's temporary. What exactly happened?

clearly their screening process isn't so great when it comes to new hires and punctuality.

delboy, the true, slightly sad, answer is no one. they're going keys-less, it appears.

Thank you for the straight answer, hoodrat.
I will have to wait and see how it sounds. I loved THS with keyboards, but especially with Franz.
I do think there's more to the Springsteen comparisons then just the fact that Franz's playing often mirrored Roy Bittan's (which I loved).
But, perhaps there'll be a harder rock edge to the band now (like Positive Jam?). I shall post after the gig, but I expect I'll still have fun.

getting rid of the keys is the best thing they ever done. now the brucestein comparison bullshit will stop does it really bother you that much that THS' sound is compared to springsteen? enough to get rid of the keys altogether? even SS, the perfected work of THS that so many fans swear they'll never top, has keys on it. craig has said in interviews that bruce is maybe his biggest idol musically, so why wouldn't critics/fans/etc make the comparison? i for one am glad the first thing i read about THS was that they sounded like bruce; it's the reason i gave them a chance in the first place.
