The Chats is one of the best gigs I’ve been to in ages! But somehow only the second best band to sing about VB, since Craig does that on Apollo Bay.
Get Dead tonight; not the best band to sing about Kerouac but not bad.
Gotta buy Off With Their Heads tickets. Maybe Patti Smith and Paul Kelly/Courtney Barnett if I can afford them:
PAX tomorrow. Not a gig (except for some chiptunes/Zelda stuff) but there will by guys dressed like Tuskan Raiders, and (Revolver) Ocelot coats with epaulet shoulders, and Hornet from SILKSONG...

Alright, it’s gonna be a mass of drama, everyone I know is gonna be there including people I really don’t wanna see... but would you say no to Courtney Barnett in a tiny venue for $20?

Saw St. Paul and the Broken Bones in Albany a week ago; slightly surprised to learn they're from Alabama, solely because I've listened to so much Hold Steady that I just assumed the name must relate to Minnesota.
The singer, who has a hell of a voice, wore an absurd sparkly cape for the entire show, and sang the last verse of the last song in the encore from atop a 10' ladder. I'm honestly not sue whether this is a planned part of the show-- he wandered off stage while singing, came out with the ladder, and a roadie ran out to help him set it up. At the end of the song, the rest of the band split, and as the house lights came up he was gingerly climbing back down...

I bought a ticket to see Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit in Manchester the other day. Supposed to be in mid-November which I’m guessing is unlikely. Anyone else still buying tickets for shows that might not happen?

Anyone else still buying tickets for shows that might not happen? So this is finally happening in November! Long overdue. Up first, after a very slight sabbatical with middle aged back problems, is The Magnetic Fields in Bristol a week today. Lots of sitting down and getting slightly emotional, maybe a drink or six, and then a good lie down in the hotel. Just what the doctor ordered!

Happy to see this thread I apparently started 8 years ago resurrected!
Sorry to hear that the kids at the shows now have back problems of their own tbob.
What other shows are people seeing these days?

Non THS related I saw Alt-J, Gaslight Anthem, Saint Sister, Chuck Ragan and Pillow Queens since things have re-opened.
Alt-J were fine - I don't know any of their songs but it was a nice night, and the venue was amazing. Gaslight Anthem were poor, unless their new album next year is incredible I reckon I'm done with them. Chuck Ragan was powerful, really good performance, and happy to say he got pretty much a full house on a Friday night in Dublin, I wasn't sure that would be the case. Pillow Queens as good as ever. Saint Sister were incredible, one of the best pair of voices I've ever seen/heard live.
Upcoming I have Jason Isbell (Dublin) Dropkick Murphys (Dublin) Saw Doctors (London) Mary Wallopers (London).

I took a drive out to Pittsburgh to see Rage Against the Machine and Run the Jewels last month. bought tickets in 2020 and it FINALLY happened. every bit worth the wait. Then a couple weeks later I saw Kendrick Lamar in Philly. I've been trying to see him for years and it finally worked out. Also an excellent show. Back in June I caught Superchunk, who played a super varied set with some real unexpected gems in there. and I saw the Karate reunion tour when it came through Philly. I'd only ever seen them once before, way back in 98 or 99, so it was nice to finally hear those songs live again.

His Lordship, last seen support THS in Camden, are opening for Isbell on his upcoming dates Thought they were entertaining but the vocals were most inaudible in the mix I thought. Conversely Jason's vocals were great, his voice sounded incredible. Only saw after he had some throat issue and was on steroids - I'd never have known. I saw the Saw Doctors in Brixton Academy - they were class, streets ahead of what I expected. The venue was class too.
