Reading Festival turned out well in the end. The Sunday was great. AM! in particular were fantastic so thanks to everyone on here for tipping me off about them. Great sets from The Cribs, Paul Chowdhry, Katherine Ryan and Run the Jewels across the weekend. King Kunta by Kendrick perhaps the anthem of the festival and finally an euphoric final set from The Libertines who've now announced a last minute tour for next week which I've nabbed a Bristol ticket for. It'll be them and Jeff the Brotherhood over the bridge for me next week but truly gutted I can't make the CF show in The Slaughtered Lamb. I sure hope I make the full band shows when they're announced...

Haven't seen any shows lately but I'm catching Craig in London, and in November I'm seeing Hop Along, Los Campesinos! and The Mountain Goats. That is gonna be a good month.

I've been to a bunch lately. Screaming Females and Vacation were excellent in philly last weekend. My band played five shows with Beach Slang and they were unbelievably wonderful. Tonight I'm going to see Against Me! in Asbury park

AM! were pretty excellent. lots of songs from "white crosses", which surprised me, but most were rearranged and much better than the LP versions.

I just love The Libertines. Great show in Bristol tonight. Early classics, brand new tunes including a live debut of 'Iceman'. Great crowd. A little bit lairy but never nasty and a lot of fun. Drenched in sweat. Couldn't ask for much more really.

Its nearly 4 years to the day that I got tickets for The Stone Roses in Heaton Park, Manchester. Would be rude not to get tickets for the Etihad Stadium, Manchester in 2016. I hope they've got new material this time though. The Libertines, the Pixies and Blur have all made great comeback albums of late. Over to you Ian, John, Mani and Reni...

Saw Hop Along last night and they slayed. Would have preferred some more movement from the crowd but oh well. Got to meet the singer at the merch table, told her how much I love Painted Shut and she complimented my Andrew Jackson Jihad t shirt. Great night.
Up next: The Mountain Goats, Johnny Foreigner and Los Campesinos! What a month.

I went to see the Waterboys last night. Apart from getting depressed that I have been seeing them live for over 30 years, their current bassist is David Hood, father of Patterson Hood of Drive By Truckers Fame.

stranglers and simple minds tonight. oldies weekend Same for me tomorrow - another band I first saw 30 plus years ago! I'm taking a sweepsatke on the first "lemeseeyourhands" To offset the inevitable bombast, I'm off to see Miles Hunt and Erika Nockalls do an acoustic show tonight//

Had a busy fall seeing shows, at least for me.
Saw Houndmouth in September, Old 97's in October, Craig Finn in November, and Robert Earl Keen in November.
It always amazes me how many talented musicians are out there, playing smallish venues and putting on great shows.

Caught them in Cardiff and it was fantastic! In the words of Mike Scott "this man (David Hood) has had more hit records than the entire band put together."

Not sure this counts in gig diary but it felt like one! I just got back from the midnight showing of Star Wars - The Force Awakens and it felt like a gig. Same faces I see at shows, similar excitable atmosphere, cans of beer, people cheering and punching the air! I don't want to type any spoilers so I'll leave it there but if you're a fan of the series or just a little bit interested get to your local cinema as soon as possible. Whether it will feel this classic in 30 years time is a different question but from first viewing it's everything I could have wished for and Rey is a wonderful character. I imagine she's into Bikini Kill.

In a role reversal I took my Dad the second time 32 years after he took me to see Return of the Jedi. Emotional! What I loved most was that it felt a little bit feminist. All the cool characters are intelligent women who can kick ass. Plus if you're a fan of the movie "Clerks" there is a reference that made me grin from ear to ear. I don't want to give too much away but it was so cool!

I'm in (as discussed earlier). A night with the "heart-stopping, pants-dropping, love-making, earth-quaking, Viagra-taking" E Street Band sounds unmissable! Plus it'll be great to hear The River in full. The one, and only, time I've seen them in Cardiff 'You Can Look (But You Better Not Touch)' was a definite highlight.

I can't wait. I see he played "Death to My Hometown" in Dublin tonight. That song had a huge resonance to me in 2012. It may be from an American perspective but it was just as vital to a small town man in Brynmawr. You've been here, Del! I'm tempted to make a sign because I don't fancy my chances of hearing it without one.
