Yes. "Super Bon Bon" is the killer jam. I first heard it on a business trip years ago driving at night into into NYC. I felt like I was in a movie. They've got killer jam after killer jam- try driving to "Screenwriter's Blues." THAT is some movie quality business right there, my friend. |

i'm not a BEP fan but i think the joke is they used to be a really good hiphop group that weren't that well known Yeah man have you seen Hot Tub Time Machine? There's this bit where the guy's band do it live, and I thought 'actually, if I saw this at a hip hop night I'd be stoked' |

Not sure what the deal's like in the US of A, but back on the continent (especially here in Scandinavia) Refused's pretty much considered to be about as important and awe-inspiring as The Pixies, especially within certain scenes. I still pull out shape of punk to come whenever I need a pick-me-up. I'd argue that The Blood Brothers are underrated, sure they were a big part of popularizing a subscene that I really, really grew to hate, but this adultery is ripe and (especially) burn, piano island burn are two super-solid albums that can get even diehard softies like me to scream. edit: Cheers to the guy who mentioned Motorpsycho, Norway's least recognized (and quite possibly best) musical export. They switch their style around with less effort than it takes me to put on my socks in the morning. Oh, and is Patrick Wolf underrated? Never seems to get any gushing on the boards I frequent. Guy makes some stone cold killer pop-tunes, plus he's almost as funny as Merrit, what with the innuendo and over the top, well, everything. |

finally, a band that stays broken up!
the whole sassy faction of late 90s/early 00s screamo bugged me. it seemed way too fashion-centric and i wanted the totally distraught, sincere stuff.

The Wildhearts. They are so much more than the bands they get lumped in with. Ginger has written some top to toe 5 star classics in his time. Epic metal opus or 3 minute pop song they have some of the best. Their back catalogue is a treasure trove of dirty pop rock and I love them. yessir. the first time i ever saw this band, they were opening for the darkness...i loved them before they played a note. they look like what a rock band is supposed to look like. and it turns out, that dude shits hooks. i told him i thought his band was perfect. when i found out they'd been around since 1994, i cursed myself for wasting time listening to that grunge shit. strangely enough, i can't seem to convert anybody over to them. Afghan Whigs (and everything Greg Dulli's done since). Dulli's protagonists are the guys Craig is usually warning women to stay away from. my favorite band EVER. jesus christ...i saw these guys move mountains. best live band...man. i just...i love them so much. and i'd also nominate JELLYFISH. in a fair and just world, this is what 16 year old girls would listen to. |

Also, Tim Barry! Why is he not huge? Avail is a legendary band with one of the most explosive live shows and greatest followings in the scene. Tim is one hell of a nice guy and his solo records are decent, but I think they'll always pale in comparison to the body of work he put out with his band, unfortunately. The Push Stars - great 90's band with a few minor hits. |

Thin Lizzy surely? A fucking poet only widely remembered for The Boys are Back In Town. Unbelievable knack for dropping the listener into his stories that had started offscreen so to say. Great influential underground solo record. Heartbreaking late-era sweaty bloated face from heroin. One of Bob Geldof’s less appealing readings of solidarity is that his charity didn’t extend to coaxing his old peer back to the live arena for Live Aid. Could’ve saved him.
