yeah Harvey Danger are awesome
Eels are playing pretty big venues in Australia, and we're the middle of nowhere... so that says something about their popularity. i dig them
Chuck Klosterman had a thing once about bands that are 'perfectly rated'. like Belle & Sebastian - everyone who needs their music knows who they are, and they aren't going hungry

the eels record from this year is so awesome. it got some awful reviews, which is a shame. i like it a lot more than the last one. i think blinking lights is his masterpiece, though
i wish the electro shock blues 2x10" didnt go for so much money

Afghan Whigs (and everything Greg Dulli's done since). Dulli's protagonists are the guys Craig is usually warning women to stay away from.

Harvey Danger - it always killed me that nobody seemed to like King James Version to the extent that I did hi, i'm joe. I meant nobody I know, outside of one friend of mine that got into them before I did. I know people hear love them. yeah Harvey Danger are awesome Eels are playing pretty big venues in Australia, and we're the middle of nowhere... so that says something about their popularity. i dig them... Eels aren't quite as popular here in the states for some reason. They do very well outside of the US, though, I know that but I don't get why so little love in the US. They play decent venues in large markets here, but small venues in smaller markets - or they skip the smaller markets altogether, like Hartford. Even now, they're starting to play festivals, but they're all in Europe. I guess E goes where the demand is. And as doctoracula said, End Times is awesome. I've seen both good and bad reviews, but I love the album.

Bomb the Music Industry! for sure. www.quoteunquoterecords.com How can you not love a band that gives all their records away for free/donation? Also, Tim Barry! Why is he not huge?

The Gutter Twins record is so under rated. The Twilight Singers Powder Burns and Real Love are first rate. But the Whigs. Oh how I love those records. Gentlemen, Black Love and 1969 are 3 world class rock and roll records.

Australia (and probably Britain) has a national 'youth broadcaster' that plays heaps of indie, both of the 'independent' and 'annoying British rock' variety. so bands like Eels, THS, Mountain Goats, etc get exposure

A local band from where I'm at Elsinore is pretty underrated. But that's just a matter of time.

See, this is my favorite band of all time, but I didn't put them up here because the people that know of them generally love them. At least in my experience. For me that's not underrated, that's under-heard-of. If we're talking bands that aren't as universally known as they deserve to be, hell, lets toss THS up there, along with The Black Keys, Explosions in the Sky and Ted Leo.

Personally I find The Black Keys a bit over rated.

I don't think anyone has mentioned Failures' Union or Cheap Girls yet. Check them out!!! I would say they are perfect for fans of The Hold Steady!
Recommended records:
Cheap Girls - Find Me a Drink Home (Their record label allows you to download it for free/donation at http://www.quoteunquoterecords.com) Failures' Union - Sinker
If you don't like these bands, I'll buy you a beer. Hell, I'll probably buy you one anyway.

UFO. Their mid-late 70s stuff, with Michael Schenker on guitar, is easily the equal if the equally inconsistent but far more lauded Thin Lizzy. Deserve plaudits for Only You Can Rock Me and Doctor Doctor alone.

They played in our living room last year and ruled. I also saw them at Fest this past year. Some of the nicest dudes in a band I've ever met.

they really are super nice dudes. when they played here, i talked to ian for a while. he kept talking about songs he didnt like on the new album, but then they played "all my clean friends" for me anyway. he was also really excited that i'd illegally downloaded the new record haha. he said they basically leaked it themselves because offering the first one for free got a lot of people to listen
