I attending solo on Sunday, arriving on the train from Aberdeen and checking into my hotel about 1630, then will be looking for pre-gig food and drink. Would be good to meet up with folk if anyone's going.

Absolutely love it, but can see why it didn't fit on the album - way too upbeat!!

I’ve held off commenting on this because it’s a weird record. The b-side (or tracks 6-10) being known by all of us. I’ve been trying to listen to it as an album instead of a collection. I think it’s their best album since Stay Postive, and that Blackout Sam is their best song since Entitlement Crew. I mean, at this stage, this cobbled together collection has no right to be so good, but it is. Traditional Village is stunning (love those E Street horns), Confusion in the Marketplace is a great closer, Entitlement Crew is still the best THS sing-along Psalm since Stay Positive and the news they’re still writing and recording will always be enough. Oh yeah, Epaulets. That song is fucking great. Agreed on Epaulets - very much looking forward to losing my metaphorical shit when they play this in London next year...

Since Dan Monick and his photgraphs came up here: After spending some time with the new album, I sort of feel that the cover photos of Faith In The Future and I Need A New War could/should have been swtiched. That shot on FITF is just so in sync with INANW's lyrics, and everything Craig has been talking about in interviews before and around the release. That everyday life and struggles, the alienation, the people living on the edges of the mainstream society. That guy, his outfit, where he's heading, the surroundings - it fills me with the same sort of melancholic and weary emotions of a country I don't really know that well as the songs on the new album does. Not a big deal, really, but still. And about the album: It still talks more to my brain than to my heart. So muscially accomplished, extremely well-written lyrics, lots of beautiful details. And I really dig some of it (Something To Hope For, Bathtub, Grant At Galena my current favourites), but I don't get dragged into it the way I thought I would. I think part of it is how extremely sad it feels. I've heard Craig talk about "melancholy", but I think this is a lot more bitter than bittersweet. A little bit ripped of genuine hope or even a sort of romantic dwelling-in-the-misery kind of thing (and on a side note, maybe because these are really believeable sketches of very ordinary people, and the older i get, the more I think of these portraits as a loooot sadder than the bigger, more classical ways of imaging defeat or loss). Probably very intentional, it's not that I think Craig would have wanted it to sound any different. But I don't know if I'm in the right place to really take it in. It's still growing on me, though. And from a pure intellectual point of view, it's a pretty perfect ending to what now is being labeled as a trilogy. Faith In The Future had a lot of hope in it, We All Want The Same Things had a lot of coming to peace with ordinary life, while I Need A New War seem to focus a lot more of what's missing in subpar ordinary lives than what makes the same lives worthwhile. Ok, this was a bit all over the place. I'll probably get back with some more condensed thoughts a couple of weeks in. I think I feel roughly the same as you, unless I'm misunderstanding. Sounds beautiful, but probably not one to listen to when feeling a bit down and hitting the whiskey. Especially the last two lines of Blankets...

Check your junk & spam boxes. I checked every inbox and searched my mail for the word “partisan”. All I ever got was order confirmation and shipping emails. I’m well aware that these things get pushed to spam sometimes but it looks like this time I just did not get it. I found mine in my spam, the sender was "Bleep Support"

"You travel your whole life Just to get out to the place you're gonna die" Wow. That line just makes me want cry. Simultaneously beautiful and frightening. Probably my age!!

No, I'm streaming this; I've had a note from the courier saying that my goodies will be delivered Monday. Yes, Partisan sent out the link for the album and the "PLATTSBURGH EP" I'd check your junk & spam boxes. Yes. It’s there. Thanks!

Where did five years go?
I seem to remember it was received well here, but appears to have fallen out of favour with fans and maybe the band too. I still love it and play it a lot, and The Only Thing and Oaks for me are up there with my favourite THS songs.

Also, can I suggest some much nicer preshow pubs than the bloody Oxford Arms to you all, albeit a little further afield. I recommend Tapping the Admiral, 77 Castle Road NW1 8SU. Five mins from the Electric Ballroom on a backstreet, but a lovely pub with a great range of beers. The Lady Hamilton, on Kentish Town Road (in Kentish Town itself) is 10 mins walk and run by the same people who run Tapping the Admiral. The Grafton Arms on Prince of Wales Road is decent pub. All three are miles better than the ones right by the Electric. Thank you. Sold on Tapping The Admiral, did a quick image search and it ticks several boxes already... Period Victorian interior? Check. Back street corner boozer? Check. Burning Sky on cask? Check. I'll stop being an ale bore now. I'll be in there once I land in Camden off the rattler on Friday night if anyone's around... And a specialist pie menu - I'm in!!

Surprisingly quiet about the show on the boards. Would love to get a report. Or some recordings. I think the initial publicity for the gig said it was going to be recorded - hope so!

...and? I can imagine it being awesome, or not very awesome at all. I really enjoyed it live. It was pretty emotional hearing it live. We had a really great time at that whole show. Played in it Newcastle in 2014 (and Saddle Shoes!)
