fontaines dc - a hero's death I just gave this a spin for the first time. Very good. Looking forward to seeing them in Cardiff next May... if gigs are back on by then! Me too, it's great. I currently have gigs for Fontaines DC, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Psychedelic Furs and Doves, all at the Barrowlands next April and May. I can't see any of them going ahead at that time, but maybe I'm being pessimistic as we've just had much of lockdown reimposed in Aberdeen...

Done. Not the greatest pictures but I kind of like that the one of me has come in at the wrong rotation. Kind of sums up how I felt after the three nights: sweaty, exhausted and just a little bit sideways...

I wonder where that leaves the next UK Weekender (Camden, March 2021) Very much in limbo I would think. My guess is that the dates are booked, but we are well away from knowing if it will be possible. My instinct is see you in 2022...

I arrived back in Aberdeen from the London shows 6 weeks ago yesterday. 6 weeks!! It seems like another world, another time way back in history (back then it was beautiful...). I had misgivings about going at the time; I had the best time and am healthy and I hope that everyone else who attended is too. I'm still not sure if it should have gone ahead and there seems to be a lot of focus on the Cheltenham Festival and the Liverpool/Atletico Madrid game which both took place a few day's later. I do know we have had little leadership in the UK (although better in Scotland) and can't see any good end to lockdown without a massive testing programme. If we get the Weekender 4 in March next year we will be blessed...
Personally, I'm quite content in lockdown (it's time for introverts to thrive!). I'm still working at the moment but the oil price isn't in my favour (although I'm increasingly uncomfortable on relying on this for my income). My family are all healthy and living right on the coast of NE Scotland is a reason to count my blessings. It's quiet, the weather has been beautiful, the air feels cleaner and nature seems to be thriving. I've been exercising more than normal and probably drinking a little too much. I've been watching and reading too much news, but trying to balance this with escapist TV (The Repair Shop is just beautiful).
Musically, I've been revisiting a lot of old music. Also, catching some of the live feeds on Facebook. Frank Turner has been very active, but my favourite has been the Wussy live shows which have been airing at midnight Friday night/Saturday morning (UK time). Chuck Cleaver and Lisa Walker's families have been isolating together so they can perform as duo. Thoroughly recommend this..
I also listened to the Saturday show from Camden 2019. I think I said on here at the time that I thought this was really focussed and fierce; listening to it confirms this as the best THS concert I've attended...
Apologies, this has been a bit of a ramble, but it's good to talk!
Stay safe everyone!!

I'm still holding out for The Only Thing, but seemingly not likely now - I was actually surprised to hear one song from Teeth Dreams.
I would have loved to have heard Epaulets, it's my favourite off the new album and I thought it would become a live staple.
But, minor quibbles, a new song every night - wow!

Really impressed with new songs. Also my first night 3 was all I'd hoped for in terms of some relative rarities. First time I've heard Sweet Payne and Charlemagne.

Still available...
Edited to add that I did get rid of this eventually, via a chance meeting with Mosh Pit Josh in a pub in Shepherd's Bush...

I have a spare for tonight at short notice. Happy to meet outside venue or at a pub before. Please message me. First come first served.
Is there a pre-show drinking venue?

Thanks all. I have no fears myself and am coming down, at least for the Camden shows. I may have to go home on Sunday so watch this space for a Bush Hall / Premier Inn deal if I do!! It's sometimes difficult to articulate to others just exactly how important this shit is!! Hope to catch up with some folk for a drink over the weekend. I may be tight for time tomorrow but aiming for Tapping the Admiral for a pie and a pint on Saturday... I'll keep an eye out for the guy squeezing his pie through a face mask! Ha ha!! I'll probably be sporting my Franck Turner Not Dead Yet T-shirt!!

Not the most upbeat thread, but is anyone else having difficult conversations with loved ones and personal misgivings about travelling this weekend?
My work life revolves around risk management, but I'm struggling to find perspective on this. On one hand, missing this weekend is unthinkable and risks are minimal, but on the other hand, I think may just be selfish...
Anyway, feel free to ignore my ramblings, but interested to hear your thoughts.

What are the odds on the coronavirus putting paid to all our well made plans?! Don't even!! I will struggle to have any perspective if something comes out about "non-essential travel"!!

After the recent run of shows, who I mostly enjoy via Facebook, Instagram and careful reading of the setlists, I've backtraced my own live history with Hold Steady. With feweer and fewer visits to Europe, my total show count is currently at 14. I figured out it would be fun to make a list of songs I have and haven't heard live. Turns out I've heard more than I thought. It didn't seem that significant when I heard Separate Vacations, Going On A Hike or Wait A While back in the day, but it doesn't look like they make a return to the setlists any time soon. So I thought it would be fun to make a list of Hold Steady songs I've yet to experience live. I'm sorry to bother you with this, it's mostly for my own amusement. But it would be interesting to see how short the list from some of the veterans in here turns out to be. And if anyone is able to find the setlists from the show at Melkweg, Amsterdam and HMV Forum, London - both in june 2010 - I would be very happy! But two new songs need to be added (in bold). It's also time to update the Most Seen Songs List. I'll just post it here. I've seen a total of 77 different songs (not including covers, just original Hold Steady songs) at 21 different shows. 21 - Stuck Between Stations 20 - Chips Ahoy! 20 - Sequestered In Memphis 19 - Your Little Hoodrat Friend 19 - Massive Nights 19 - Constructive Summer 17 - Killer Parties 16 - You Can Make Him Like You 15 - The Weekenders 14 - Southtown Girls 14 - Party Pit 14 - Hot Soft Light 14 - The Swish 13 - Stay Positive 12 - Magazines 12 - Entitlement Crew 12 - Stevie Nix 10 - Multitude Of Causalties 10 - Slapped Actress I maybe imagining it (I was very drunk), but did they not play Cruxification Cruise last year in Camden

So BBC 6 music fest has had its line up announced for the weekend. Shame Squid and Bombay clash with the bush hall gig however a lot happening in Camden throughout the daytime. Tried to get tickets for the Sunday afternoon at Dingwalls - was on the website when it opened, got put in q queue and ten minutes later was told it was sold out. Good job I've other stuff to keep me busy that weekend

This may be a silly question, but i'll ask it anyway as I've not been to a weekend's worth of shows before. I've received my tickets to the Fri and Sat London shows, but they have 'Saturday 7th March / Two Day Season Ticket' printed on the front with no mention of the Friday... I'm coming over from Australia for the shows and was hoping to take a different mate to each of the different nights (I got 2x season tickets). Can anyone shed any light on the process - do I just show and keep these tickets on the Friday for re-use on the Saturday? Cheers! Yes, just show and reuse!! Although the printing on the tickets last year was a little clearer.

I can't remember if I mentioned this after the weekend(er)s in 2018 or 2019, but it need to be said here anyway: These recent London shows have been the (by far) most intense Hold Steady shows I've been to. I was never able to be a part of the tour curcuit in the US back in the day, but I've seen them at venues all across Europe (Norway, Germany, Netherlands, Ireland, several shows in UK) from 2007 up till to day, and I went to all four Massive Nights shows in Brooklyn in 2017. Nothing compares to the energy, intensity and power I've experiences in Camden. As I said upthread, I've split my weekends both years. Close to the stage on Friday and on the balcony on Saturday. Upfront you get the physical sense that this is pretty wild. But it's maybe even more visible from the balcony. About half the room is actic like the front two or three rows does at a normal show. People sing along to every single tune, and on the six or seven most popular ones, it's competeing with the sound of the band (which says a lot, because these shows have been very loud, a little too loud for my liking). I don't know if all of this is a good or a bad thing, I'm old enough to appreciate being able to stand fairly close to the stage and not have to use energy to not get knocked to the floor. But it's surely something to experience. And I figured it was worth mentioning in this thread. Totally agree. I was up front both nights last year - Saturday especially was really "fierce" (in the best possible way) - I had the impression that on the Friday Craig was almost a bit "gee, shucks, can't believe you all came out", whereas Saturday was just incredibly focussed. I maybe talking bollocks, I was significantly more booze fuelled on the Saturday!!

Big thanks to Fairyglass for the link: that’s me booked for the Saturday. If any needs accommodation the Premier Inn in Hampstead is currently just £66 on the Saturday. We stayed there last night and it is absolutely fine and only a mile walk away. I held off booking the sound check / after show package as it’s quite pricey at £55. Is it worth it? what’s the after show bit like? I stayed there last year, word of warning if you are looking for late night food - there literally isn’t anywhere open, trust me I walked the streets looking. So eat before you walk back! I stayed there two years ago, and got totally caught out with the lack of anything open on the first night (!). Good for hungover walks on Hampstead Heath though! Have gone for the Premier Inn Hub at Kings Cross again this year, which is newer (although a little disconcerting with apparently sleeping four floors underground!) and good for my train coming in at Kings Cross. Works out nicely for tube to Bush Hall as well this year.

Bush Hall looks great. Looking forward to it after missing out in 2014. I think that was my favourite Hold Steady show of them all. The venue was great, and there was such a hunger for the band in the audience. I think it sold out on presale through an e-mail, so you would might guess that there was a higher proportion of die hard fans there too. Very warm and sweaty, and almost a little to much pressure in front of the stage, but it was pretty spectacular. I was pretty bummed about missing that one, but I couldn't justify the expense for one night so far away; the upside of it was that I found this site and passed the ticket on!
