I just turned 21. I got into them when I was 17, basically when I started driving because THS just sounds good in the car.

I want to be 22 again, it seems like it was just yesterday...or 10 years ago. I never believed what everyone says about how time flies when you graduate from college and get out in the real world, but damn, where have those 9 years gone?

I will bring the average back up a good bit, coming in at 51.
First show was ages ago, Spring of 2007 here in Pittsburgh. Five more since, with Columbus a potential in July.

I like seeing all these people around my age sort of come out. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one being all fan-boy/fan-girl about a band, who is not in their teens or 20s.
I do think the lyrics frequently speak to an older set, as they outline a very specific time and a very specific place (and by that I don't mean geographical location). And I think that has drawn a lot of us together. Those of us who watched those Bones Brigade videos - who were lucky enough to have a cool record store nearby or live in a big city with access to them - can relate in a way that I don't think we really can to a lot of other music - especially to music aimed at "our age group." Those of us who were part of an alternative scene, before the word "alternative" was used to describe such. Back when you were in a scene of punks, skaters, new wave kids, goths (nobody even used that word) and skinheads - because there were SO FEW of us, that we overlapped at parties and shows and the two under age places where kids hung out (City Center?).
I'll stop now.
But thanks, fellow older fans.
XO WD

I'm up there with thurman and loupap. 53. Some of yins calling yourselves "older" fans could be my kids. She Who Must Be Obeyed asked me why I got into this kind of music at this stage in my life. All I could answer was "Well, I've done opera; I've done jazz; this is what's left." Me too. That's one of the best things about the Unified Scene.

I must be right in the Hold Steady's wheel house for lyrics at 41. Good music is good music. And Shit, 41 is the new 39.
FYI: I was one of the older rockers at The Gaslight Anthem. Similiar bands with nostalgic lyrics, yet different concert ages. Should make Michigan interesting, and a bit dangerous.

Ahhh, those Bones Brigade videos...my friend Dean that I am bringing with me to Orlando got me my first skateboard: "The Ripper" by Powell & Peralta. I always sucked skating but a few years back I picked up a deck and hit the bro bowl and Tampa skatepark. I hit empty car lots and strip malls and had the cops called on me twice. Then I fractured my wrist, slid the board under the bed and haven't touched it since.

41 for me, 40 for the wife. I remember my first US pregame in Milwaukee a few years back- me, Breenle, JD, WDaisy, Linda from New Orleans, I think maybe Joelle (?) ... we way outnumbered the kids at the bar ;D. Met people at the show from 13 to mid-50's.

42. But will bring the rage. Interesting Unified Scene Facts: 1. JWD can lift more weights than you. Step back. 2. Whiskey Daisy is louder and more giddy than any 20 year old you know. Back way up if she's running at you. 3. Mike may be 26, but he's going on 45 (in a friendly curmudgeon-like way). 4. It's too close to call whether SMJ, Rich or I can drink more beer than you, but SMJ downs them two at a time. Try to keep up, then back the f... up if you're not feeling well. 5. I'm a big fan of this board, though it's getting harder and harder to make it to shows. I'll be 43 in June, and I'm sure I look every bit the worse for wear, but I still feel and act like I'm 25.

I'm twenty (twenty-one in July). I got into the Hold Steady when I was sixteen or seventeen--at least, I have heard of them. It wasn't love at first listen for me, so much as it was "these dudes sound cool, I'll put them in for background noise." It took me about a year to really fall in love with them, probably around the time I really started paying attention to the stories in the lyrics.
