Hi, I'm 40 and been a fan since January 2006 after my date introduced me to Separation Sunday. 16 shows: Orlando, Ybor, Tallahassee, Atlanta, Athens, Chicago, Milwaukee, NYC and Brooklyn. Too many stories to tell.

I'm 19. Saw them by accident in 2008 when I was 14, I think I just wanted to see a band live. Before that I'd heart Hoodrat at that was about it. That night was so good, got one of Tad's picks and pulled a setlist of an amp. I don't think I've stopped listening to them since. Saw them again in 2010 and that was even better, knowing all the words and being spat on by Craig is so much fun. Can't wait for the next tour, wish they came to the UK more often but it's nice that when they come here the shows are so small and I always get to the front!

Weren't they playing mostly big rooms (2K or so) last time they hit the UK?

Both times I saw them they were playing the smaller room in o2 academy Newcastle which seemed pretty small to me, but I guess people in the US get all the crazy tiny shows! Was really easy to just go stand at the front. Hoping I can come to the US one day whilst they're touring and see a few shows

I'm 20. I got into THS pretty late and only became a fan this past summer. I was at the Pier 26 show in NYC where THS opened for the Gaslight Anthem ( I came for Gaslight and had only vaguely heard of THS). They blew Gaslight out of the water and I've been a huge fan ever since.

Maybe we're a whole lot older in the UK. Seen them twice at Glastonbury and a couple of times in London. I'm 61. That is a 6..........

i found out about them in 2007 - changed my life. i am now 32 years old. i think the music speaks to all ages because of the continuous talk of young adulthood, etc.
it also seems to speak to a ton of guys.
i'd kill to meet a girl who hears it speak to her!

38 here, only got into The Hold Steady in the last year or so.
Not seen them live, but my fingers remain crossed that they'll come to the UK in 2014 and not just the festival circuit. Got a little one on the way so I'm looking forward to passing on my wisdom to the next generation

I'm 23. Not surprised at the answers in this thread; seems to reflect what I've seen at the couple shows I've been to. Different sorts of people, different ages, etc. 'Unified scene' reflects that, of course.
Calgary, Alberta is not a great place to be into THS. I've only gotten to see two shows over all the years I've been into the band. Also, not many people seem to know the band around here and I seem to know or sort of know most of them. I remember seeing THS in the pouring rain at Olympic Plaza summer 2012 and recognizing, like, 1/4 of the portion of the crowd I could see. I mean, that's an exaggeration, but it's approximately true. Met more Hold Steady fans in Brooklyn and the Twin Cities on short visits than I have in Calgary my entire time here. But I guess that's not surprising and I'm rambling now.
And the dude a few posts up from mine might be right that more dudes are into the band than girls, but I know a few girls who are die-hards. It's not, like, unforgivably a sausage fest.

I'm 27, got into them in 2008 after Kimmel or Leno or something. I've seen them twice - at Calvin College, GR MI, 2009 and The Strutt, Kalamazoo MI, 2011(?)

I'm 37, I got into them in 2010. I've only seen them in my state (Ohio) once. I've seen them in New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Kentucky, and Michigan so far.

I got into THS about 2006-2007, so I was about 25-26. I'm 32 now. My brother, who is not quite two years younger than me, introduced me via "Certain Songs." I picked up a copy of Almost Killed Me and the rest is history. Just bought tickets to see them for the fifth time at The Abbey in Harrisburg PA on 2/7/14. I'm super stoked. I'm from Baltimore and I previously saw their shows 9/2011 at the 9:30 Club in DC, 10/2012 at the Ottobar in Bmore, and 9/2013 at the Shindig festival in Bmore. Oh, and to the person upthread, I'm definitely a woman. :-) I get what you're saying, though...based on the demographics at the shows I've been to that would seem to be the case, but some of us ladies out there are definitely hardcore fans!
Man, February seems sooooo far away.
