Just found they guys and they are damn cool. Am I late on this bandwagon? Their latest record is fantastic.

i love their first album and the recent EP. haven't given the new album a proper listen yet... ...but they've gotten a lot of hype around these parts recently.
i was planning on seeing them at the stone pony (opening for the bouncing souls, but it won't be the first time i left after the opener at a souls show)...but it was sold out WAY in advance...

i picked up this album a few weeks ago with a fair amount of skepticism. but these miracles work. love it. high lonesome is one of my top tracks of the year.
(aside: it has truly great track titles, too)

Also late to this bandwagon, grabbed "The '59 Sound" a couple days back, and I'm hooked. Also loving the Counting Crows reference in "High Lonesome"--in addition to being a killer song, that lyric puts a big smile on my face.

Urrgh. I went to see them the other night and thought they were borderline dreadful. Enthusiastic enough, but utterly lacking in imagination and variety: uptempo alternachug and almost nothing else; and lyrically dependent on All American Cliche (the number of references to girls named Mary or Bobby-Jean suggests either that Brian Fallon's Springsteen obsession is out of control, or that parents of baby girls in New Jersey don't think hard about naming their daughters). That said, virtually everyone else there was singing along to every song at the top of their voices.

i really like it but i have to say that it has about 5 songs on it, played twice. much love for my jersey boys, though.

I really like the latest album a lot. My only minor shudder/cringe moment, is when he references a Counting Crows song-"Maria came from Nashville with a suitcase in her hand..." I don't know the names of the songs, but that line is in the chorus of one of the Gaslight songs.

I love these guys but this:
always bugs me about them!
That aside, I think they're great.

I checked out their latest album after a recommendation on another forum and it's a great album... Very enjoyable. The amount of Springsteen references is both fun and annoying.

Yeah, I really dig the first album - agree that a lot of it sounds pretty similar and the "Subterranean Homesick Blues" references are a little cringeworthy but a totally solid album. Quite like The '59 Sound too, but prefer the EP to all of 'em!

They're kinda like Hold Steady-light with a more poppy, Killers-ish sound, and with a singer with a "normal" voice and less complicated lyrics.

I've seen it happen time and time again when the originators of a certain sound /collection of influences get surpassed by a lesser band. Another similar case in point is Glasvegas being an inferior version of The Twilight Sad, but with a more commerical edge.

man, there is a lot of hate on here for this band all of a sudden. i certainly agree the songs are simple and musically repetitive, but damn, people, this is some dirty jersey rock n roll. it feels good to me.
