Hey guys and gals. I know I'm not around much, but not having the internet kind of sucks. Anyway, I thought I'd pop on and share what I've been up to lately, in the hopes that someone will enjoy it! Other people (lookin' at you, nosferatu!) feel free to post musical stuffs, it'd be cool to hear everyone else's stuff! Anyway, here's my latest track off of the album I'm making. It's called "The Bridge". www.reverbnation.com/play_now/16131402Stringer x

psychicteensnetwork.bandcamp.com/my band is called Psychic Teens. we play a post-punk/shoegaze kind of thing. personally, i think we sound like if New Order were louder. but that's just me. other people have compared us to Spacemen 3 and Young Widows. so there's that. our bandcamp site has our first LP, plus some cover EPs we've done. we're going to finish recording our 2nd LP this weekend. woo!

Nice!! Couldn't access bandcamp from the library internet (blocked!), but found your tumblr and watched a video. It kind of reminds me of The Damned a little bit, too!

soundcloud.com/user8102375/davidianI rap. This is my most recent verse (I tend to delete things every time I post something new, because I'm always ashamed of my work after the fact). I'd like some opinions, if anyone's cool with that

I play in an on again, off again folk/blues/roots/bluegrass/punk/soul duo called Rattlesnake Gospel. These days we only play when the other half comes back to visit PA from his home in San Diego. Got a few releases you can listen to, for fans of Tom Waits, The Pogues, Bob Dylan, Sam Cooke, Johnny Cash, etc. Love to hear some thoughts if y'all have a few mins. www.rattlesnakegospel.com

Iterate - its really good man! Your flow reminds me of Souls of Mischief - who I love. Just wish there was more stuff on there! Rattlesnake - you guys are ace. You would have fit in really well at the gig I played Saturday night!

I'm working on getting more up there. I've got a mixtape full of verses that I plan to release before May (they're rough verses, and I'm looking for someone to do production. With 15 or so instrumentals I could bang out ~10 songs in a week of editting -- just need those instrumentals!).
Thanks for the praise. I tend to be highly critical of rappers (even those who've "made it"), including myself, so it's nice to hear something good.

I rather enjoyed 'The Bridge' as well - RG has been talking about doing some dates abroad in the future, maybe we'll have to head your way and do some shows together.

Just rapped for the first time on stage. In front of almost 200 people. With a double encore.
How it happened: I was at a local concert thing (which was awesome). I waited until one of the guys running it was very, very drunk. Then I asked him if I could get on stage and rap between bands, one song. A cappella. He agreed, and I got on stage. I did one song. People liked it and asked me to do another. Three guys climbed on stage to beatbox for me. I did another. The crowd wanted another. I did another. Then I got off stage to make room for the band.
The drunk-as-fuck organizer found me again during the band's set and asked me to get on stage between bands again. So I did. I rapped... six? verses and the drummer from the next band provided a beat.
That band wanted me to rap a verse over them jamming, so I went on to do that. I rapped two full verses, and then couldn't remember anything else I'd written and left the stage. They then spent several minutes trying to get me to come back, so I came back up just to explain that I was all out of verses for the night and to thank everyone.
That was crazy. What just happened to me?

Thanks Things I learned: 1. I can rap. 2. Some people like it. 3. Some people REALLY don't like it (this one guy made a point to post several Facebook statuses in a row about how terrible I was, but many others expressed the exact opposite opinion). 4. I have no idea how to perform. 5. Holding a mic is hard.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3nDhgfsWZs&feature=shareThat's some of what I did. As you can see, I have a very, very, VERY long way to go before I'm passable, BUT! it was fun. And people were entertained. And I'm not ever planning on making money with this stuff. Criticism more than welcome.

if you're enjoying yourself and learning how to make it more fun and better in the process, that's all that counts. there will always be someone in a crowd that doesn't like what's happening, but they don't matter

One of the guys that's big in the (very small) art scene in the area (and who was there last night) has a son who's into rapping and had a brief career with a Houston label he founded. The dude has some pretty awesome connections and got in touch with me. He never brought up money and made it VERY CLEAR that I should focus on my education. However, some of his buddies from a record label are going to send me some instrumentals to record shitty, un-mastered demos over so they can see what I do when I have the opportunity to produce more refined material.
Two days ago less than a dozen people had heard me rap outside of one talent show at a high school event.
Now I'm starting a very small (and secondary) career. I couldn't be more thrilled. This is insane.
