ahhh falling out of love with a band... growing up with floyd means they have a special place in my heart. i can see why people don't like them. i can see why people don't think they are relevant or why they think they are boring. i just don't agree totally. the sleeves do rock. I hear you entirely. I just can't listen to them any more. Hell I was an extra in a performance of The Wall in another life. But they're dead to me... I have, no Floyd

Led Zeppelin - Zepp do nothing for me, but I'd go with Kashmir because that riff is so badass Tom Waits - Town With No Cheer Sonic Youth - 100% Pearl Jam - Jeremey Green Day - Don't like, but there is a segment of Jesus of Suburbia which I love Blur - Coffee & TV The Faces - Never listened to them... Patti Smith - Gloria Guns n' Roses - Paradise City (Such a fucking tune) Stones Roses - not familiar enough

Parents were never a fan, so I never discovered them. And they were never as big as the Kinks, Stones or Beatles, so I overlooked their existance.

I know it doesn't sound very open minded. But I am settling down with my music choices. I don't really desire much more new music, especially new bands because they are really discouraging, (with a few expectations of course).
I may go and find a bit more about old bands who I missed. But I am pretty darn happy just listening to Hold Steady, Against Me! and Modest Mouse for ever.
And Han, I think you may beat me to 500 posts

fair enough, but don't miss out on some of those older bands/artists you missed. my dad didn't listen to david bowie when i was young and it took me ages to find him because i thought that way ^^. i regret this because bowie is now one of my favourite artists ever and i would never have found him if i hadn't gone back to listen.

My mum was an über Bowie fan. Bowie is music for cool Mums.

my mother doesn't like bowie. well, actually, she likes some of his stuff but not a lot. she prefers elvis costello and pink floyd.
she is still cool.

My parents saw him, but it was when he was COMPLETLEY coked up, and it was the worst gig that they'd seen. He also didn't play any classics

my aunt went to see him at the NEC in brum and she had to leave early because of the train. she was GUTTED because she loves him as much as theblondette does.
that was his greatest hits tour... i am eternally jealous.

Greatest Hits tours are the best. I missed REM on theirs, which is annoying cos when they play normally they don't tend to play a lot of hits.

i saw rem on the around the sun tour, which was basically the greatest hits tour because they played 2 songs from around the sun and then the rest of the set was awesome stuff like orange crush, it's the end of the world as we know it, man on the moon etc etc.
one of the best gigs i have ever been to! didn't cost me an arm and a leg either. win.

agreed. wholeheartedly. even the band knew it, hence not playing any of it live.

*shudder* Around the Sun was such a god awful album the current album isnt much better. just because they started to "rock" again doesnt mean they are great again. my biggest disappointment this year. even when i saw them live they were just going thru the motions.
