Mind just arrived, thanks Evan!! I can't wait to dive into this thing, but family is still in town, need to wait for the decks to clear. Based on the song list, I am super stoked. I think it is great Evan, that you said you go on Ryan Adams kicks from time to time, and I struggled with whether or not I should put the Whiskeytown track on your mix! So great, I bet you will be a fan and perhaps you had that song already. Hope you enjoyed the rest!! Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!! I got mine a few days ago, I just got through listening to it the second or third time--it's fantastic! 1. Tripping Daisy, "My Umbrella" - This band is great. I want to hear more! I love Tim Delaughter's voice, but the Polyphonic Spree just creeps me out... 2. Toadies, "Backslider" - One of my favorite Toadies songs--no one can make a song sound huge and dangerous quite like they can. 3. Pavement, "Cut Your Hair" - I never really got into Pavement, but this is a cool song. Maybe it's not too late. 4. Built To Spill, "Car" - I have 3 BTS albums, but for some reason I never listen to them. I should start. 5. Toadies, "Tyler" - This song always kind of reminded me of if Cheap Trick were a little angrier. And drunker. 6. Everclear, "Fire Maple Song" - The "World of Noise" album is such an awesome grungy rock disc, I always liked their gritty stuff better than the radio-friendly schlock. 7. Pulp, "Common People" - This one's a classic. I got this on a mix CD my freshman year in high school, loved it ever since. 8. Tripping Daisy, "Raindrop" - Again, these guys are great. They definitely do make things seem just a little bit happier. 9. Radiohead, "High and Dry" - I'm with you on the Radiohead issue--I vastly preferred their pre-electronic stuff. "The Bends" and "OK Computer" are my favorites, no question. 10. Hagfish, "Stamp" - What a weird song! It's great though, kinda reminds me of the Dwarves--stupid, vulgar punk that makes you want to jump around. 11. Slowpoke, "Lorraine" - I think I've heard of Slowpoke, but I don't know where. I like the song though, so either way I'm glad to have it! 12. ASH, "Angel Interceptor" - Definitely never heard of these guys, but you're right, it's a cool song. 13. Modest Mouse, "Out Of Gas" - Old Modest Mouse is definitely strange, but I like it. Good stuff. 14. Supergrass, "In It For The Money" - Supergrass is one of those bands that I know are phenomenal, I know I love to listen to, but for some reason I forget about. Thanks for the reminder 15. UFOFO, "Legendary Microwave" - This kind of reminds me of Guided By Voices, though I'm not sure why... 16. Whiskeytown, "16 Days" - I don't have this album, but based on this song, I might have to pick it up. 17. Neutral Milk Hotel, "King of Carrot Flowers pt. 1" - One of my favorite albums of all time. Other NMH is optional, it can't quite live up to "Aeroplane." 18. Silver Jews, "Honk If You're Lonely" - I keep hearing about these guys, but never checked them out. This seems like a good place to start. 19. Centro-matic, "Fidgeting Wildly" - I love this song. I've never heard of these guys, but I don't know why late-90s radio didn't just eat them up. 20. Modest Mouse, "Whenever You Breathe Out, I Breathe In" - This is a new one on me. I've never gone any further back in the MM discography than "The Lonesome Crowded West." Not sure if I quite dig it or not yet, but it's definitely different. 21. Built To Spill, "The Plan" - (see Track #4) 22. Old 97s, "Nineteen" - I don't know why I never listened to these guys! I want to hear so much more! This has got to be my favorite on the mix, thank you for turning me on to them! Let me know what you think of your mix, I think it came out pretty well! I tried to throw some lesser-known stuff too, so hopefully you enjoy it...

ps: i apologize to my receiver--the crappiness of the artwork (okay, the lack of artwork at all) to accompany my cd is unfortunate. i hope you like the songs, anyway...

Aww Man you tardy types are making me feel a mixture of Professionalism and Pride and Nerdy Shame
Mine was early, with full colour artwork and so good I copied it as a pressie for some mates and they're all raving about my mixing (or laughing with me anyways)
Send yer fuggin' discs kids. Christmas is over.

Been living with the CD mix from Laurenjean in my car and it, and this whole process in general, has warmed my heart this holiday season.
That Dog - Minneapolis kicks off a regional themed CD. Terrific song, I've been following Petra Haden's fascinating career for years. I had a bit of a regional theme for the CD I sent out as well. Was this a common decision? Haky Bonar - Car Wreck Jeremy Messersmith - Skyway. A well-done cover of one of my favorite Replacements tunes. Sunnysmack - Now Everybody Knows. I want to find out more about this group now, great tune. Lifter Puller - Prescription Sunglasses. Nice! Kid Dakota - Negative Kid. One of my favorites on this mix. Atmosphere - The Woman with the Tattooed Hands (Live). A fascinating group. I downloaded Strictly Leakage last year and I am intrigued by the wide spectrum of sounds and styles I've heard from them. They were on an NYC radio show and did an acoustic instudio performance. Heiruspers - 5ves P.O.S. - De La Souls. Sweet tune, great beat and great hook Mark Mallman - Kissing the Knife Ben Connelly - Evangeline (Live) Jeremy Messersmith - Novocain (Live). Okay, I definitely have to check this guy out. I hope he tours through my area Cloud Cult - Deaf Girl Song (live). I have managed not to hear Cloud Cult despite reading about them for awhile now. I dig it and see what the hype has been about Roma Di Luna - Inside the Bells Dylan Hicks - Rocketship Martin Devaney - Meeting Like This Sean Na Na - Princess and the Pony. Great tune Golden Smog - Pecan Pie. One of the highlights of the disc. I had only heard one Golden Smog record and wrote them off. This indicates I was wrong. Replacements - Here Comes a Regular. So so beautiful Neko Case - XMas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis. A terrific and appropriate ending.
Thanks so much Laurenjean! Also many thanks for the recipes.

I'm a tardy bird! I just sent mine out to East13th a day or two ago.
<slightly sheepish bowery>
I haven't actually received my mix in return yet though.
I admit a growing curiosity as to Hoodrat's methods of casting public shame. May they be both audacious and amusing!

I am finally going to be sending mine out! I have no real excuse, except that I have been too tired to do anything useful for a while now. Anyhoo, it's all made. I apologise for (a) the lame cover and (b) my bad handwriting - my printer is broken. I can pretty much guarantee, though, that no one else has included a piece of early modern music on their mix, so that should snazz up your life, dear recipient.

I just sent out mine today.. it should be at its destination by Saturday.
I apologize to my receiver, but I needed to make some money (Holiday pickings were slim this year... college books took everything.)

After much continuous playing of the CD I received from 212Margarita I feel inclined to post his track list, just because he did such a wonderful job of compiling a CD which features many really good covers, with only 4 which I was previously aware of.
1. The Arcade Fire - This Must Be The Place (The Talking Heads) 2. Bauhaus - Ziggy Stardust (David Bowie) 3. Super Suckers - Breaking The Law (Judas Priest) 4. Blur - Oliver's Army (Elvis C) 5. Ben Folds - Bitches Ain't Shit (Dr Dre & Snoop) This is such a good song. 6. Cracker - White Riot (The Clash) 7. David Bowie - Cactus (Pixies) 8. Faith No More - War Pigs (Black Sabbath) 9. Get Up Kids - Close To Me (The Cure) 10. Braid - This Charming Man (The Smiths) 11. Ike & Tina Turner - Come Together (The Beatles) 12. The Living End - Tainted Love (Gloria Jones) 13. The Pogues(Without Shane) - Honky Tonk Women (The Rolling Stones) 14. Tori Amos - Thunder Road (Bruce) 15. William Shatner - Common People (Pulp) 16. Travis - Hit Me Baby One More Time (Britney) 17. Tool - No Quarter (Led Zep) 18. Nick Cave & TBS - Rainy Night In Soho (Pogues) 19. Sid Vicious - My Way (Sinatra) - What a fitting ending to finish the album.
10/10

I admit a growing curiosity as to Hoodrat's methods of casting public shame. May they be both audacious and amusing! i have sent all the PMs, some sternly-worded, some not so. i also PM'd a few people who should have received CDs by now and for whom we want to make sure it arrived properly. as for the still-tardy types, i figure you lot have a week or so before i undertake this public shaming. confusingly enough, you late-senders are mostly old board regulars. come on, we gotta try a little harder.

I got my cd! Thank you nation87!! Funnily enough, although I am familiar with most of the bands, I have literally never heard ANY of the 18 tracks on the cd... which probably doesn't say a lot for my musical knowledge... Am listening to it right now, thank you so much ;D
