jtd7: Glad you are enjoying the mix. Nice ear picking up on the "live" theme. Not all are recorded live, but all the artists are great live performers... which is all too uncommon these days. I guess I should qualify that: Michael Hedges, Warren Zevon, and Mark Sandman (of Morphine & Treat Her Right) all died much too young Why can't we trade a couple of Vanilla Ice's and MC Hammers for any of these guys or maybe SRV (whose killer live version of Tin Pan Alley I reluctantly left off the CD since it was 16+ minutes long)? All the groups on the CD differ from The Hold Steady's witty punk-influenced party rock; ranging from folk to funk, and bluegrass to blues. But they all share The Hold Steady's ability to craft meaningful songs and host a great live party. Happy Holidays to all and get out and support worthy musicians! -Kinda Medical

I love the fact that the CD is a mix of genres. kindamedical. I think Richard Thompson is the only one of those artists I have heard live, but I've heard him live more than any other artist, over a dozen times, and he's fresh every time. (Susan Werner is a close second b/c she was local for a good while.) I gotta hear Todd Snider live -- I keep hearing the end of his set on Mountain Stage or some such and he's a hoot. And his track on your CD confirmed that.
I am indeed getting out this weekend to hear Slo-Mo and The Brakes.
Happy holidays to you and all the Unified Scene.

Mind just arrived, thanks Evan!! I can't wait to dive into this thing, but family is still in town, need to wait for the decks to clear. Based on the song list, I am super stoked. I think it is great Evan, that you said you go on Ryan Adams kicks from time to time, and I struggled with whether or not I should put the Whiskeytown track on your mix! So great, I bet you will be a fan and perhaps you had that song already. Hope you enjoyed the rest!! Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!!

something relevant-
i received your fine canadian mix cd today. it's awesome!
other than gob and wolf parade, i was not familiar with any of those artists, so that made it even better. i am especially fond of company store by greg macpherson. that song is great. i'm already looking up more stuff by him. two hours traffic also seems like a band i could totally get into.....but i've enjoyed the whole cd. thx again.
ps- one thing i must say, i was a bit disappointed that there was no nickelback?!?! (kidding, of course)
and on another note, after seeing the nice booklet provided in mine, i now feel bad for the crappy notebook paper playlist that i provided for my giftee. my apologies in advance for my non-artsy gift.

I'm happy you like it. I had hopes of the booklet being so much nicer, but I got rushed by the end. Greg MacPherson is AWESOME. Company Store is amazing. He does this spoken word one called Administration, which I don't think he's actually recorded, but is ultra-amazing if you can find a video of it. A lot of stuff got cut: I tried to keep it to lesser known Canadian bands. I had to throw Gob in just cause that song always makes me yell, "zombie cheerleaders!" (if only in my head). I debated the wiser Wolf Parade choice to go with Sunset Rubdown instead, but I'll Believe In Anything won out cause it makes me so happy; I couldn't leave it out. And as I said in the liner notes, I'm at a loss for Newfoundland bands, so.. (early) Great Big Sea, it was. Nickleback? Pfft. I considered throwing in some Avril Lavigne to spice up Ontario, actually. haha. Hey- Hey, You- You, I don't like your girlfriend..

Jason (scratchedsoul)--
I got the CDs yesterday and they are phenomenal. (Yeah, that's right everyone else. I got two CDs.) And I dig the lo-fi packaging. I'll give a more thorough review of them when I have the chance. Thank you so much!
