A while back, I found this post from soniclovenoize about the bonus tracks on Soft Rock:
Well, I've uploaded the version to YouTube after getting my hands on that compilation disc. I've tried lining it up with Secret Santa Cruz, and it definitely does flow pretty well. It's got a very different placement of the distortion in the mix, but otherwise is mostly the same.
Figured it would be interesting to see what he was talking about.

A bit early to speculate, but what are your guesses/hopes for the support acts? Is it totally off to wish for Lifter Puller again? After a third solo release, I think it would be decent with Craig opening for himself as a solo artist as well, but I'm not sure how that sits with Hold Steady as a band. I'm dreaming of Dillinger Four as well, and on the likeable and more likely side, I wish for Titus Andronicus or So So Glos. I saw them open for Hold Steady in Cologne in 2014, and they were amazing. I asked Steve about it the moment the shows were announced, and he said he wasn't even aware of it. Still a possibility, I'd say, but I doubt LP will be there. If they will, I'd be fully willing to trade my Saturday ticket for the show LP is playing.

Apparently this guy didn't know what he really had. Just a short four-song set of "Plymouth Rock," "Secret Santa Cruz," "Touch My Stuff," and "Back in Blackbeard," but damn. Also features a fucking amazing intro I don't want to spoil.

Sweet, I'll be working an internship in Manhattan this Fall so I'll be there this time too! I hated that I had to miss it last time.

3 Nights. Flying in from Cincinnnati—and it's my first real THS show, to be honest.

Same. I'll be in-town all weekend for the shows, so I'll be on the lookout for some kind of new experience with it all!

Same here - refreshed right at 10, couldn't get in. There is already a ticket listed for over $200 on stubhub... Really? That is absolute fucking bullshit.

I like the idea of this, but unfortunately, there's basically no time when I have a free hour-and-a-half to actually listen to an audio interview. The first half is primarily LFTR PLLR/experiences with the band focused, while the latter half talks more about his own act from around the same era, The Hawaii Show, and then his current project, the Ronnie Buxtons. I'd say take a chance to check it all out if you can—especially the Hawaii Show stuff, it makes for a great story, but if you're pressed for time that's the general sections of it.

Ya know, Chicago isn’t that far from Minneapolis… “… that's when she said that we should do this all over she wipes the blood from her mouth with her shoulder said I just need a little diet cola, or maybe just a little…” I missed that Red Rocks show last summer, but how great would an annual reunion show be!? Damn, I wish. I actually asked Steve on facebook, if there was a chance they'd be at the chicago show. All I got was "nope." The Red Rocks show was amazing man, and if I'd known they'd be opening in Brooklyn I would've tried way harder to make my way out there during the end of the semester.

AirBnB seems like the best option. I don't know if they have some kind of roommate set-up, but if anyone needs a +1 I'll be down for it. I'll be there all 3 nights.

Can anyone even see the tickets being available for The Empty Bottle yet? I can see the place to enter a code for the Theater venue, but not the Bottle show nor the 3-Day Pass.

Does anyone know how to get back on the mailing list? My fiancée did the Pledgemusic fundraising as a gift for me a few years back but then unsubscribed from future emails. Didn't realize that would get you presale codes. Or could anyone PM me the presale code? I'd really appreciate it! Want to surprise her! By pledging, you will join The Unified Scene fan club, where you will get insider access, exclusive music, members-only content, pre-sale ticket opportunities and more. re subscribe to pledgemusic I don't think you can re-subscribe as far as I can tell.

Do we have to do anything other than have our account set up here? Is there any kind of newsletter or something we have to sign up for? You are on the list if you registered for the pledge campaign a couple of years ago. By doing so you were added to the US mailing list Damn, I don't think I was here back then.

Great work, man! possible reference to Secret Santa Cruz by Lifter Puller here Very likely! Along with these recent live reunions, I've noticed that in almost every interview regarding this new album, Craig or the interviewer brings them up at some point. Asking how things have changed, how LP compares to his current work. Hell, they're referenced in the very first line of that Quietus interview posted here earlier: thequietus.com/articles/21983-craig-finn-interviewI think it's likely that his storytelling and specifically how it's changed as he's gotten older has really been on his mind lately. I'm glad to see them still be "around"—I still can't believe the reissue was 7 fucking years ago, and that was the last time they got any real recognition.

I was 13 when I first heard The Hold Steady, back in '06. I couldn't really call myself a rational or a hardcore fan at the time, but I heard "Your Little Hoodrat Friend" and I loved it. Got the CD, eventually got my hands on BAGIA, bought Heaven is Whenever the day it came out—I was still only 15. They were one of my favorite bands at the time. It's funny, I never realized how "behind" his general age group I was until I went to the living room concert and realized that even at 22, I was much much younger than most of the other people there. I don't see that as a good thing or a bad thing, it was great to just be in a room with so many people there to see an act like that. It was just something I'd never really thought about until Craig started pushing the fact of them getting older lately.

I'm only three songs in, but I'm genuinely surprised. There's lots of little really grim/rough elements that stand out, like that squealy-solo on Ninety Bucks, and then in the same song it becomes this gospel-influenced piano bit... Damn, it's fucking great.
Edit: All of these really rough little sounds, I love them. The transitional bits. I didn't expect it to be this "experimental" (for lack of a better term).

This song is what finally made me buckle and pre-order one of the bundles. I knew I wanted the record, but I just couldn't decide if I could drop that kind of cash. Totally worth it now if it means more like this. Thanks for everything, C.
