HI BREUKELEN!!!!
It was a pretty great show. Tons of energy from the band and the crowd. Craig looked as happy as I've seen him. I threw "you'll be Ben Gazarra" and he returned a "you'll be Gena Rowlands." Holy moly! Saw many friends, met some new ones (212! dotinfo! beloved breukelen!), had too much to drink, and also a blast.
Set list:
Constructive Summer Multitude of Casualties Hot Soft Light Sequestered in Memphis Chips Ahoy! Yeah Sapphire You Gotta Dance... Cheyenne Sunrise One for the Cutters Massive Nights Joke About Jamaica Magazines Lord, I'm Discouraged Your Little Hoodrat Friend Bangin' Camp Most People Are DJ's How a Resurrection Really Feels
encore: Don't Let Me Explode Stuck Between Stations Slapped Actress
Too short! Too soon over! And someone kept grabbing my ass and Holly swears it wasn't her!
Not too shabby.

Last night was my first THS show...didn't come in with any expectations besides wanting to get rocked hard, and I was certainly not disappointed. The band really seemed to be having fun, and that generally makes for a good show...it certainly did last night. Cool venue, great crowd, loud rock music. Sweet.

Just back to Portland. Fun, sweaty show. Great to see some old friends and meet some new ones.
Slightly disappointed by the venue. For a sold-out show with a band like this, there is no reason for tables anywhere, much less half-way back in the room. And I expected better sound. In fact, I spent the first half of the show back in the room a bit for that reason. Craig's vocals were muddy; the people I brought were newbies, and if you didn't already know all of the words, they were not terribly clear. Took something away from the show for them.
The band was great, as usual. Craig, in particular, was much looser than he's been at the last couple of Portland shows. Koob high-fived at least one audience member.
First half of the set list wasn't my fave, but to end the set with Hoodrat >> Bangin' >> DJs >> Resurrection was pretty damn cool.

I thought this was a MUCH better show than the one we saw in Portland a few weeks ago. They were just not into it that night.

Thanks everyone. That was fun, except for the Bart Simpson looking dude who tried to crowd surf. That was just wrong.
That was a super sweaty, fun, hand-clapping, pogoing, arms around strangers kind of show. Hey Hey, Sacramento.

Thanks everyone. That was fun, except for the Bart Simpson looking dude who tried to crowd surf. That was just wrong. That was a super sweaty, fun, hand-clapping, pogoing, arms around strangers kind of show. Hey Hey, Sacramento. He did alright at first. His attempt to do it again failed miserably as we were all trying to talk him out of it. Of the five shows I've seen, I think this had the best crowd and the weakest set list. Ideally, I want You Can Make Him Like You, First Night, and Killer Parties in the set. I still had a great time though. There was a guy with a nice camera next to me getting some great videos. I asked him to put them on youtube and he said he would although apparently not yet. There was some really really drunk guy close the front. I don't mind it too much if he's staying cool except for the fact that he was about as wide as three people. Someone handed him a joint which just seemed like a bad idea. Luckily he left halfway through. When I left, he was slumped over on a chair outside.

I was the guy taking the videos. I am sorry to say that the audio quality is horrendous on the videos i shot. The camera was borrowed from my wife's parents for our trip and I had never shot video with it. The video turned out pretty decent on most of them, but is a bit grainy when zooming in and out. Anyway, i guess i don't know what to do with them...the audio sucks so bad that you can just kind of tell what song it is and then just loud noise. i don't suppose anyone taped this show? This was a really fun show by the way and we were glad we decided to hop up to sacramento for the night. Had some great sushi for lunch at mikuni's and good pizza and brews at chicago fire. Got there late and met Mike (from ..Scottland?? can't remember his board name or US#) and his friend Deedee (sp?) - nice folks..thanks for chatting briefly and hope you are having/had a blast at coachella.

Been traveling, only had a chance to check in and report now. I had a fucking blast, and enjoyed meeting many adorable Scenesters who were New To Me, including several more of the Scene's seriously awesome Ladies Division. The energy of this show was really excellent, more "open" than I've seen them recently, and War On Drugs continues to build their rep as a bunch of total sweethearts. Sacramento had wide, easy, empty streets that never offered this little drunk wanderer even a smidge of sketchiness, and those California kids are all right, man.

Ah that's too bad. If there was a tape, I could line it up pretty easily, but I'm not holding my breath. I remember seeing a few zoom ins that didn't focus (I think 3x wide drunk guy was in focus for some reason though).

There is apparently a torrent on dime of this show: www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=245709 (The Hold Steady -- 2009-04-15 Harlow's, Sacramento CA) I presume this is the same show? I listened to the sample and thought that CF's voice sounded wrecked, so I didn't download it. Was that just the PA, then?

I just got back into the office after a lovely 5 days off that started on Wednesday night. What can I say about the show that hasn’t already been said here? The venue was awesome and small, I still can’t believe how close I got, the energy was fantastic…overall just an awesome experience. It was great to get to meet so many very cool and kind people. Chicago Fire pizza was awesome, and actually I was really impressed with all of downtown sacramento. My fiancée and I took a walk around when we got there and we were both really struck with how cool of a place it is. We actually talked about coming back for another vacation sometime soon. Although I figured it out when we got back and we spent just about as much time driving as we did in Sacramento I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Nice. And I think I owe a bit of an apology to the sound guy. Mix may not have been perfect for the vocals, but poor Craig's voice was pretty thrashed. Still, in my so-far limited listening, it sound pretty cool. Koob kicks major ass, regardless of the vocals. And since no Portland shows have surfaced, I finally get a show that I actually attended. Thanks lots. Much love, unified scene.

July 7th is going to be awesome. I'm bringing my brother. I don't think he quite knows what he's in for as he hasn't seen me at a show like this since like, Avail circa '98. 924 Gilman, yo!
