Cool. Good to know things in advance. I once mentioned to a friend's wife that I had seen his "proposal file" and she freaked.

Getting closer. Making the trip from LA via United. Land around 3ish. Hope to meet lots of US'ers. Who is planning the pre-festivities?
And, I love Canada!

I am not sure what time I'll make it up, but not as late as I thought - I'm thinking 7?
Anyway, the venue is at 27th and J St. There is a good restaurant, Tapa the World, at 21st and J, but I can't remember if they serve hard liquor or not. Might just be beer and wine. I can't think of other places nearby, I've been gone too long and didn't do all that much drinking. I'll ask for recommendations from current residents.
(I know that's not all everyone wants - but enough people want it enough to find out.)

You can fly direct to SFO for C$320 (return). Then BART and Amtrak to Sacramento are about $30 each way. If you flew from Seattle, you could do it for about $200 on Southwest. Don't know if that's an option. Hotwire's got Seattle to Oakland for $121!!! This may happen yet!!

hmmm...I think you'll end up spending the same amount to get from Oakland to Sacramento. I'd just fly into Sac and take a shuttle downtown. Saves you a lot of time, too.

Can I bring you anything? Thanks for the offer...but I'm just jonesing for my next trip up to Vancouver. As far as a hotel goes, I haven't booked yet, but I think I'm stuck near the airport, as my flight leaves unbelievably early the next morning (thanks FF miles!). Jack

Has anyone picked a hotel? Or have any suggestions? Those in the know say: There is a cool new hotel across from City Hall called “The Citizen”. It is THE place to stay these days. But, the ones right near the CCT are the Sheraton (in the Julia Morgan building) and the Hyatt.. The Sheraton is the top recommendation but likely best for sharing rooms. There's nothing right near the venue, but these are pretty close.

I particularly enjoy this description: PENTHOUSE SUITE $599 The top of the Citizen gives you all our normal amenities plus much more. Enjoy sweeping views of the State Capital, Cesar Chavez Park or the Sacramento skyline from your 200 square foot private balcony.¡UVAS NO! ¡Extra deep jetted tub while listening to the Bose sound system, sí!

Booked at the Citizen. They won me over with Italian linens and an iPod dock.

If you happen to be a government employee, there's a great discount. There are also AARP and AAA discounts, which aren't quite as delightful, but at least worth six mixed drinks each.
