REM - Departure
listening to it at work now and i think it'd be pretty damn awesome. it seems like it'd be perfect. the big rock guitar riff and the sung/spoken vocals are already there!

There was an old Thread about this.
I'd like 'em to do A Sheltered Life by Carter USM.

i want my Mountain Goats/Hold Steady crossover not covers. like Craig's characters interacting with John's characters. the guy from the Alpha Couple making a pass at Holly. one of John's doomed, redemption seeking monsters/killers hooking up with the Cityscape Skins. that sort of thing
failing that... This Year

This Year It's an extremely mellow song and a weird pick, but I would love to hear Craig sing Cobra Tattoo. I think he could do it incredibly.

The Sunset Tree is a pretty good starting place. Agreed. The starting off points seem to either be: Sunset Tree or Tallahassee for the newer period, or All Hail West Texas if you're not afraid of lo-fi.

I started on Tallhassee and moved forward to Heretic Pride and then backward to All Hail West Texas. It worked well for me. I'm gonna give a fourth album of theirs a try before long. do you have the live recording of the Mountain Goats doing Positive Jam? it's pretty great Yeah, I love that! Is this one of those recordings that I'm allowed to ask for because if so, yes please. EDIT: Scratch that, just found one streaming. It's awesome.

"Side Projects are Never Successful" - Bomb the Music Industry! Two reasons behind this: 1. I love both of these bands, and we all know how awesome it is to hear one favorite cover another. 2. Because of this explanation from the Quote Unquote records website: Heres a link to said song on youtube. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ch3oW550adA

Hopefully we'll get to hear them cover "I Will Dare" sometime soon, through AV Club's Undercover.

I remember reading about Craig and Tad watching "The Last Waltz" and being inspired to start a new band....I think they should cover something by The Band
I agree with the Elvis Costello suggestion. "No Action" or "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love & Understanding?" would be good, too.

"Dirty Diana" by Michael Jackson. Give it a good listen before you start to scoff.

The Sunset Tree is a pretty good starting place. Agreed. The starting off points seem to either be: Sunset Tree or Tallahassee for the newer period, or All Hail West Texas if you're not afraid of lo-fi. The Sunset Tree is a perfect starter. I started out on free mp3's and that got me interested. You can get some (legally) here: www.themountaingoats.net/wiki/doku.php?id=mp3s:home The first album I got was Get Lonely. Terrible choice for a first tMG album.

i'm a fan of Palmcorder Yajna as a starting song but yeah Sunset Tree. traditional type choruses but still super-literate lyrics check out Heretic Pride too
