Very old school ... "And It Stoned Me," by Van Morrison ..... It's what would happen if Holly liked fishing poles and swimming holes.

i'm a fan of Palmcorder Yajna as a starting song but yeah Sunset Tree. traditional type choruses but still super-literate lyrics check out Heretic Pride too Nobody ever mentions Heretic Pride, but I love it. Especially once I found this www.thejeffreylewissite.com/Mt-Goats-Press-Kit-08.htmlI'm a sucker for songs about/referencing/inspired by writers, and HP gave me two.

THERE'S A PLACE CALLED LOVECRAFT COUNTRY!?
is it unbelievably squamous there?
that article you linked is great. my lit of horror professor in college made it a point to discuss lovecraft's racism and its influence on his writing.

Do they actually play covers in concert ? I have only seen like 5 shows , no covers played... would not expect them to play a cover, even though I have heard one or two they have recorded.
Anyhow,
The Doors - Five To One

THERE'S A PLACE CALLED LOVECRAFT COUNTRY!? is it unbelievably squamous there? nah it's a generic description. i get the 'where you from?' America 'where in America?' conversation all the time so when i'm around geeks/horror fans i say 'Lovecraft country'... i went to university right around all the places he wrote about (except Arkham and Miskatonic... those places aren't real) guess where i grew up was more Stephen King territory but it's all pretty close

and lovecraft's better than king anyway i'd semi-disagree but King wouldn't... King's better on character and plot, Lovecraft on mood, description, and nameless terror the one story King considers too scary to write is one about a pillow that would give him Lovecraft's dreams....

character and plot are kinda unnecessary in lovecraft stories, though. he just goes for that really deep-seated, subconscious fear. it's all very gut level, and unbelievably affecting.

i love Elvis but i figured he wouldn't be up Craig's alley ("at least in dying you don't have to deal with new wave for a second time") but maybe he's punk enough that it wouldn't be out of the question. and i do think "No Action" would be the best choice if they did an Elvis one.
have they ever covered the Clash? because if not, they should.

It'd be awesome if they played History Lesson Pt. II every once in a while, they KILL that song.
I really would like to hear them do any Replacements.

Didn't they cover 'Lawyers, Guns and Money' by Warren Zevon at some point on the R&RMW tour? That would have been one of my answers...that, and 'Hair of the Dog' by Nazareth.

If they do the full band version like the Mats did live, yes. Bastards of Young, Can't Hardly Wait, I'll Be You, Talent Show, Alex Chilton, The Ledge, Valentine, and Left of the Dial would all be awesome.

Departure's a great song from probably the best band ever. I've seen REM 10 times now & thought ,as I'm rapidly approaching 50 ,that I wouldn't find a band who could match the sheer excitement I feel when seeing them live. London in June will be my 3rd time seeing THS & I can't wait. Bit of a bummer that the best bands are from the other side of the pond though, since the days of The Clash & Elvis Costello at his best the only other band from the UK that have got me excited are The Darkness who used to live about 2 miles from my house.

I can almost feel the tentacles tighten... ha! so fitting craig should reference some cthulhu mythos shit on the next record There was a stage and a PA Up in Western Massachusetts And the kids came from miles around To get messed up on the music Of the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes That surround the boundless demon sultan Azathoth (i went to college in Western Mass. i DID see Lovecraftian entities. and Atom and His Package)

it's a really creepy place! but also a really awesome place! Sapphire does go to college in Western Mass, and she's already in touch with SOMETHING supernatural, so if Lovecraftian shit goes down it'll hit her first
