In reference to "Heaven Isn't Happening," there was a album by The Lapse (Ted Leo's brother, formerly of Native Nod) called "Heaven Ain't Happenin.'" It came out in 2000, a little late to fit in with the other bands/songs mentioned, but it's a possibility?

I love the references to Viceburgh by Lifter Puller in Our Whole Lives:
From Viceburgh:
We could try the guy up on First and Fifty-Ninth if he's still alive
is referred to by "maybe something stronger if the right guy's on the corner".
and
Yeah these hescher guys are trying to give me high fives but they don't stick the sugar packets inside ripped and dripping down all over the barfly She's taking off her tavern jacket last night
is referred to by "kids are ripping into sugar packets, townies taking off their tavern jackets".

Been lurking for awhile, finally created an account to say...
Everything somuchjoy posted about Holly = Jesse and the timeline and the hurricane....I am just sitting here in slack jawed astonishment. It checks out. IT CHECKS OUT. Craig Finn, you are a delightful genius of a man.
Also, In Black And White reference on WCGT: Mustard Plug put out an album called In Black And White, but it was in 2007 so it doesn't quite fit the timeline. Maybe it's a more obscure reference.

Now, I'm a relatively new fan and I haven't had much time to delve into the "mythology" (as X-Files fans would call it), but would it be completely out of the question to say that Jessie is the yin to Holly's yang? Jessie is everything Holly could have been if she didn't go down the path of drugs and partying. But, just because she's alive, doesn't make her necessarily better off. Like where Craig sings "But 22 and banging round in restaurants isn't that much prettier than banging round in bars." Implying that just because she spends her time in restaurants, doesn't mean she's better than Holly who hangs out in bars. Meaning that the line that everyone seems to hate is more of a snide comment, "You're a beautiful girl and you're a pretty good waitress, but Jessie I don't think I'm the guy." I don't know, just the way it hit me.

I'm missing the reference there (hopes it's not a THS song or I'll be embarrassed).

not on this album but, iggy stradlin. It supports SMJ's 17y/o holly thing.
for the record, not a GnR fan.almost got in a bar fight with a guy who showed me his GnR tat though. it was all in fun though, no one really got down to any violence.

And lest you think I'm making this up, if our girl were born in '77, and her parents named her after the hurricane she was conceived in during the prior fall, anyone want to guess what the name of the hurricane was in that year? wowowowowowoowwwwoowowwwowow

Also, In Black And White reference on WCGT Look at the back cover of "In Color" by Cheap Trick (1977). as for CF's spooky brilliance, it's easy to get caught up the Feynman ARW 357 license plate phenomenon if you assume that each album begins with distinct data sets...

This is a longshot but in The Smidge Craig refers to someone as "Angel." The only other time (to my memory) he's referred to someone as "Angel" is in the Lifter Puller song Sublet.

I don't recall seeing this asked in any other threads so here we go...In the "Weekenders" what does the line -
"I remember the OTB. The five second delivery" refer to?
Sorry for my ignorance if this is an obvious reference...

about the whole jessie=holly, there are people whose actual first name is disregarded and they go by the middle. could it be possible holly's name is Halejuhlah Jesicka _______? or maybe a more intimate friend calls her by her middle name because she likes it more. ex: my friends name is thomas emmit, but his close friends call him emmit.
