Would you prefer to know what the DVD is like, or not? If not, I will go back through the thread and delete my posts so I can't be accused of carrot dangling. Goodness me. i would love to know - forgive my lack of emoticons. plus, fellow journalist-jealousy at not seeing it yet.

Does it include talking inbetween songs?
Because I get miffed when I buy a live CD/DVD and it cuts them out.

Just gonna mention this here- and I really don't wanna start a fight- but I'm not sure how appropriate discussing an advance copy of a forthcoming official release is.
Again- this is just my opinion- but journalists/bloggers/etc who are *fortunate* enough to be so-well0connected enough to get an advance copy of a record (or, in this case, DVD) should respect the fact that those copies are intended to be reviewed or reported on websites or within the pages of a magazine.
But starting a thread on a fan-run message board essentially taunting the visitors of the site with the information that you have is just, I don't know...sort of lame, in my opinion.
For all we know you might be the guy who leaked Stay Positive.

There you go. All gone. I was sent a copy legimitately with no embargo attached. If I wanted to write a prerelease book about it, there is nothing ethically or legally wrong with that. But as for taunting people? I just thought people might want to know whether it was any good.

I think I can speak confidently for everyone here that we all made up our minds regarding the quality of this CD/DVD many months ago. After all, we ARE The Hold Steady. Thanks for sharing though.

So what if he had a blog, wrote a review of the DVD and posted the link to that review here. Does having it one more click away make the the act not taunting but just advertising?

*shrug* in a perfect world journalists would respect embargoes and all that. in an imperfect world you can pop down to a used record store and buy promo copies of albums before they're officially released. in a wired world the second something is released anywhere it becomes avalible to everybody i'm not defending anybody's actions but yeah... tho if you have a copy at least give us a bit of a review. they send these things out to create buzz and all that

Look, I don't want to seem petty on this- but it's sort of like...there need to be lines. And while I'm sure we all appreciate posting and participating in a forum with professional writers and such (many of the regular posters here are...and I'm sure that there are many more that we don't know about) I sort of think that - for now, anyway- unless it's a review of the release on a blog or website, that it shouldn't be teased on the forum. Maybe I'm off base here. I don't want to fight. It's really just my opinion. Dude, you totally didn't have to delete the posts.

I agree that the post shouldn't have been deleted, I read it earlier and thought it didn't add much as far as information or 'review' but it would be perfectly valid as an opinion post. But it's the author's post to pull if they want, I guess. If it had been more of a formal review it might have been less controversial.

anyone who isn't writing or taking photos for a local street press/music website should get on that... its a great way to get tickets and CDs, and everyone here is literate enough to meet the standards for most publications

seriously... if you're in Australia Private Messege me and hit up your local street press as for america and overseas... dunno if its similar but it shouldn't be too hard. if you go to enough gigs/listen to enough music then just start your own blog. you don't know where it will take you.... er, i'm too lazy to do my own music blog the whole trick is that they rely on people who want free stuff for free content... so you're not getting paid but as a hobby its a great way to see more gigs, especially stuff you wouldn't ordinarily see

For all we know you might be the guy who leaked Stay Positive. that seems pretty harsh considering he's been a regular poster here for some time and hasn't once shown any kind of inclination to that kind of thing. what's the point in passive-aggressive barbs like this when, even if you're jealous or feel it's inappropriate, he hasn't actually done anything wrong, nor even anything mean-spirited. it's not like he's some press douche who's just come on the board specifically to gloat about the fact that he got a promo; he's another fan of the band who's excited about getting his hands on the new release, you know? with the stay positive leak, the real problem was people getting hold of illegal copies and reviewing or discussing them before the high street press had, but i don't see that infraction here because his copy is legal and he's not under any obligation to keep anything about it secret. we run the tightest ship of any board i've posted on, and it's a big part of what makes this place so great and don't think for a second that i don't really appreciate all the hard work you've put into it, mike, but maybe there's a time to chill out and stop trying to find new things to not be allowed to talk about. xo

yeah, but you know when some really obese goth girl's walking around in just leather underwear and fishnets and too much bad eyeliner and people are like "what the fuck's wrong with you?" and she's all like "you wouldn't be looking if you didn't want to, handsome", but that's not how it is at all!
