Done.
Belatedly.
I'd agonised over these so long that I'd forgotten to send them.

Can I just say it's been a while since I submitted my list I can't remember if I said Thanks to the old Bleeding Hi-Fi Unit over there. This is going to spark a play list of epic proportions which I commit to hunting down every track I can.
I will then judge the responsible Scenester who finds me some new favorite songs as something of a legend and speak of them in hushed tones around the taverns of the Home Counties.

Only a few days left to get your list in and (possibly) become legendary!

Yours will count, Charlie.
I'm about halfway through the entries so far. It's a nice, varied list, and I'm really enjoying it. I've been youtubing things I'm not familiar with as I go.
I won't give away any results until they are revealed in order, but I will say that there are a few songs that have shown up more than once, and are competing for the top spot!

Just finished writing out all the results.
Some folks didn't place their list in order, so I had no choice but to use the order they listed in. I should have been more explicit when I said "in order", as a lone #1 pick will end up higher on the final list than a lone #10 pick.
Anyhow, I must now assign points to each choice, then I'll have a final list in order!
Each #1 pick receives 10 points, and a #10 pick will get 1 point. There's a few songs that appear here and there throughout the lists, so I'm not sure what the #1 song is yet!

Are we getting it released in chart run down fashion or will you hit us with the whole thing?

While the list I sent in was nominally chronological, I did fiddle with the chronology a little so that I'm basically okay with treating it as a rank order, too.

21 people, including myself, took part in this.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to submit a list.
It was a lot of fun reading them and tallying the scores. A ton of writing, but still lots of fun!
Okay, let's start the unveiling!
All of these songs are tied for "last" place. They are everyone's #10 picks that did not match with any other picks. There's 19 of them, because two of the #10 picks matched up with higher picks from other people's lists...
Don't Feel Right..... The Roots Upon the Sun..... The Meat Puppets Summer of '69..... Bryan Adams Eternal Flame..... Joan as Police Woman Flame Trees..... Cold Chisel America..... Simon & Garfunkel Ball & Biscuit..... The White Stripes Bastards of the Young..... The Replacements Wild Man Blues..... Johnny Dodds' Black Bottom Stompers Asleep in the Back..... Elbow History Lesson, Part II..... The Minutemen Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing..... Sufjan Stevens Stagger Lee..... Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds Snookered..... Dan Deacon To Build A Home..... Cinematic Orchestra Into My Arms..... Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds Most People are DJs..... THS Poison Town..... Bedford Kamikaze..... I Hate Myself

All of these beauties are tied for 2nd to last place...
Angel from Montgomery..... John Prine Song for You..... Gram Parsons Your Little Hoodrat Friend..... THS The Windows on the World..... American Music Club Here Comes the Sun..... The Beatles You Wear It Well..... Rod Stewart 30..... Danny Brown Thrasher..... Neil Young Wall of Death..... Richard Thompson In Dreams..... Roy Orbison Salvation Song..... The Avett Brothers Visions of Johanna..... Bob Dylan Death on the Stairs..... The Libertines Ballad of a Thin Man..... Bob Dylan The Gauntlet..... The Dropkick Murphys Waiting Watching Wishing..... The Push Stars Old Hat..... Harvey Danger Hoover Dam..... Sugar

Waiting Watching Wishing..... The Push Stars Who's the other person with this tune? I've never met anyone else who's heard it. Most people don't know the Push Stars for that matter. By the way bloodystereos, in case I didn't say it when I submitted my list, thanks for doing this. It was fun and I'm already looking forward to some new tunes I've never heard. And Bedford's "Poison Town" was mine. They were one of the first shows I went to in high school and made me fall in love with little garage shows and punk rock in general. It might not have the same appeal if you weren't there, but they were such a great fucking band. They broke up long ago, and put their discography on Bandcamp for free: bedford.bandcamp.com/album/the-now-sounds-of-bedford

Waiting Watching Wishing..... The Push Stars Who's the other person with this tune? I've never met anyone else who's heard it. Most people don't know the Push Stars for that matter. No one else had The Push Stars. It was your #9 song, thereby earning a spot above any #10 songs that didn't pair up. Basically, there's going to be several groups like this, where a bunch of songs are tied. Once we get a bit further into the lists, songs start to accumulate more than one vote each. I guess I'm not spoiling anything to tell you that there was only 14 songs that got more than a single vote. I'm still thinking of awarding a bonus point or two for each additional vote, so that a song that got three "lower" votes can 't be listed higher than a one vote #1 song. In other words, your #1 pick got ten points. If someone else had that same song as their #6 pick, it got another five points. So, if a song was #8 on three people's lists, it would get nine points, three for each 8th place vote. I'm not sure it makes sense that this hypothetical song should place lower on the final list than a song that only one person voted for, who made it their #1 song, earning it ten points. So, I'm considering adding a bonus point for the second time a song is chosen, then two bonus points for the third, and so on. Thoughts anyone?

Now that I look at it, there are two songs that got more than one vote each, that won't score higher than the single voted #1 picks.
Applying the bonus points as I suggested would only lift one of those two above the ten point barrier.
Maybe instead of that, I'll just make a notation beside songs that got more than a single vote, like so. (2), or (3), etc....
I also intend to show the top five artists by overall voting, which might not match up with the actual top five songs. probably won't.

"A song for you" is so beautiful. The "I hope you know more a lot more than you believe in/Just so the sun don't hurt you when you cry" makes my heart hurt.
I am really excited to go through these.

Wow. Bryan Adams, The Libertines and Nick Cave all mixing it with two big hitters from the THS catalogue. This is a hugely interesting list. I have some downloading to do.
Danger Zone must have done pretty well huh?

This is great, thanks for doing this. I'm playing it like a kind of bingo seeing other people's choices. Songs I nearly picked, right artist, wrong song etc. The idea of those two Dylan songs being second to last anything breaks my heart. And if whoever put Death on the Stairs meant the version on the best of, not the Up The Bracket version, we are pals for life.

See, I didn't have to vote- the Scene's got my picks covered.
I suspect we'll be seeing more from Mr. Dylan as you unveil the list.

There was at least one dylan song on my list. It'd be crazy difficult for me to even pick a top 10 dylan list though.
Glad to see Danny Brown on there
