Koob is refered to as Koob. Is the reviewer a lurker here?

Aye. I tried to retain some journalistic objectivity, but failed miserably!

Cheers! I think music "journalism" allows the most scope for partisanship, to be honest, so I'm unrepentant on that front!
Rumour has it that TK can't touch another drop, or his precious pancreas is history. Poor fella...

Especially when you see other people drinking. It's like smokers trying to quit.

Cheers, LilHan. It feels good to be part of the Scene. :-)
Ah, well - Koob has two lungs to bugger up, whereas he had only one pancreas. So he should be OK for another couple of decades at least. The man's a hardcorey legend.

Mr Grieves is your name a reference to the Pixies song by any chance?

Mr Grieves is your name a reference to the Pixies song by any chance? Indeed it is. What a fine band they were too. I think both they and the Steady have a shared lineage in that the Huskers were a formative influence. Anyone agree/disagree?

i wouldn't argue with that. i think the hold steady have a pretty direct pixies influence going on a lot of the time, too.

I recall what my Dad's music loving friend once said to me; Every good band has been in someway influenced by the Kinks or the Pixies

It's a sweeping statement, I'll grant you - and somewhat unfair to good bands that were around before the Kinks. But it's defensible nevertheless!

Because popular rock music started in the 1960's. And to most young people this is the timeline of music: ___________________The Beatles/Stones/Beach Boys/Kinks ect 1940.......1950.......1960

Cheers, stevedave. Well, if we're going to digress into Pixies territory, I would like to argue that Trompe Le Monde is an unfairly overlooked album. Considering it was the work of a band that had, in effect, already split, it stands up remarkably well. I find myself going back to it more than the rest of their canon.

i've never understood why so many people think it's a weak album. i mean, seriously, u-mass; letter to memphis; head on; planet of sound; subbacultcha...phenomenal record!

Subbacultcha is my favourite song on the LP (I love Charles's heavy breathing, for some reason!), although it's notable that he wrote it even before Come On, Pilgrim was released.

I would have to go against your opinions of Trompe Le Monde. It was the one Pixies album that I couldn't get into. I tried to get into it, but found myself only loving Letter To Memphis, and not really caring for any of the other songs. Unlike Doolittle, in which every track means something to me. I think that the reason people think that it is a weak album is because their previous albums were pretty groundbreaking and every track was instantly likeable, whilst Trompe Le Monde's songs take a bit more time to get used to. I find TLM a bit of a letdown after Bossanova, which I rate really highly, and I found it lacking in hooks, and the textures seemed a bit thin and the production a lot worse than on the previous two albums. Favourite Pixies Song: Hey
