I recently got into this band because my girlfriend knows a personal friend of the band. They've really grown on me. Anyway, she has the cd copy of "A Positive Rage" cd which is due to be released soon. It was mastered at sterling sound in nyc and she got it from a friend there.
For the fan's, let me tell you it sounds fantastic. I have heard them mostly on cd, but this live cd has made me enjoy them even more. Stuck Between Stations sounds great as an opener. I also really enjoyed Chips Ahoy.
Anyway, hope you guys enjoy it when it's released. The mix is very good.

Can I ask a question? I'm hearing that the bonus tracks aren't on the physical CD, just download only. Is that true?

Download only. OPut the disc in your computer and you get an SP icon - click on it and you go to a Vagrant mini-site - which asks you to fill in the info and says you will be sent the songs. I tried doing it when I got my finished copy last week, but it didn't work. I don't know if that's because they aren't up for download till release date, or because a US site that requires US zip codes for registration doesn't work for English computers. Either way, I couldn't get the new songs and haven't heard them.

Well, I'd guess that it's because the live show occupies the entire running time of the CD, and the other disc is the DVD. So they can either up the price and insert a third disc, or do it this way. But, yes, I'd rather Spectres and 40 Bucks had been on a single B-side or something.

they could at least have had them as audio on the dvd, though? it bugs me when i can't get physical copies of songs, and that'd be the case even if i had a computer.

Finally have Spectres and 40 Bucks. Easy to see why they didn't make it to the album, and why no one's heard them played live. I think they're terrific, but they really don't sound much like the Hold Steady. The former has strings; the latter is an oddly unswinging funk. Way off the beaten track, and fantastic for it. Makes you realise how different the album that emerged from those sessions might have been.

40 Bucks, especially, I think is wonderful. It's lyrically a close cousin to Jamaica. Jamaica is more dramatic musically, and more melodramatically lyrically, but this is warmer, even though I guess the criticisms people have made about Jamaica would apply here. But it seems to me to be heartbreaking, not contemptuous - when the song ends with a nondescript wannabe rock star taking two twenties from a sleeping, starstruck young girl, you feel like shouting at him, not sneering at her.

i bought a copy of the CD/DVD today, i wasnt even expecting to find it. i was going to just buy one 7" at my local store, but i didnt have any cash and had to pay with my card. they had an $8 minimum for card purchases, so i checked around the store for something else to buy and found it! the DVD is really great, and the live CD sounds incredible.
i filled out the form for the bonus tracks, though, and just got an email saying the tracks will be available on the release date. what the hell?? i dont want to wait.

yeah, but it's fair enough that they are making you wait, really. you got it before it was technically out, therefore you must wait for the bonus tracks to catch up.
I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!
