I can absolutely confirm this is true and it is why I said earlier that to truly "tour" expenses include "wages for these nine people (including crew) who probably want to be paid at least what their current home jobs do at least". I've heard this from other similar sized acts too. I imagine at some point THS may not have had day jobs, but at this point in their careers it makes total sense. Craig's talked about keeping his living expenses modest/reasonable so that he can continue to do what he loves--make music and tour. The implication was that he didn't have or need a day job.

jessicalyn, That picture. Ace? Craig? Please elaborate a bit. It was from Halloween this past fall. Craig and the rest of his band all wore Starchild paint, and called themselves All Paul for the evening. I helped with the makeup. It was a super fun evening.

OK, now we have pictures of Lyle Alzado and Michael Jordan. I have a suspicion, anybody want to venture a guess what these mean?

I'm coming round to the fact that I probably won't get to see them, but still jumping up and down at the fact that Franz is back.
It quite literally puts the 'Woah ah oh' into 'woah ah oh, we gotta stay positive'.

Just imagining Franz playing on the Heaven Is Whenever/Teeth Dreams live standouts like Hurricane J, Spinners, The Only Thing, etc gets me hyped.

Why does everyone keep assuming they're not coming to the UK? Look through this thread, a massive chunk of the fan base are from here. THS, and Franz, always seem to love visiting the UK so I think it's highly improbable that they won't come. Then again I've been wrong once on this thread. It is a matter of economics. As I said before, there is nothing new to promote and sell so there would be minimal income outside of ticket sales. Now, assuming you could even get enough promoters/venues interested to put something together overseas for a band who has not been together as a touring outfit in nearly two years and has no new music - try to figure out how many shows at what ticket price and what attendance minimums would be necessary to cover: roundtrip trans-Atlantic flights with luggage overages for a band of six and skeleton crew of three, lodging and food for these nine people, wages for these nine people who probably want to be paid at least what their current home jobs do at least, rental equipment, ground transportation, fuel, a driver, manager fees, publicist fees, tour booker fees, etc etc etc. Remember there is no record company to front this money before one dime of ticket revenue is paid out. Now, who's credit card do we want to put this on? Bottom line, unless Noel Gallagher or Johnny Marr are on the THS email list and they call Tad this week and ask him and his band to open a run of shows, I would not hold my breath for THS in the U.K. this year. Again I only offer my opinion because I think this 6 day ramp up to an "announcement" has unfortunately stoked the excitement levels of many fans a little too hard. Take their statement "playing a limited number of live shows this fall" literally and hope it parlays into something bigger in 2017 or 2018. If there are European shows, they'd be more likely to be in 2017, which is the 10th anniversary of the European release. And which would allow the band to get booked on to the festival circuit, where they could make the money worthwhile for it to come over. That way they could play a run of festivals, with a handful of headline shows in major markets to top up the coffers. But without a series of festival bookings, I'd be amazed to see them come over.

I've been hoping against hope for a very special and very nostalgic 10th anniversary show. Just with a better opener this time. But the twitter reference to Alzedo's Jersey number made we want to Kickstart a big piece of this announcement from yesterday's Brooklyn Vegan: "THE BIG REVEAL" In celebration of the 10th anniversary of their masterpiece "Boys and Girls in America," the Hold Steady is rumored to be in final negotiations to play five consecutive nights at our storied Brooklyn Academy of Music this August. A confidential source has revealed that the band has been preparing to play all songs from their six album catalogue in storyboard order, starting with "Positive Jam" on the first night and ending five nights later with "Killer Parties." In order to provide further insight into the major recurring characters as they progress from the seventies where it all started through to the present, special guest stars will be bringing to life these characters' lines, only ever previously voiced by Craig Finn, the band's lead singer. A tentative lineup has Finn singing only as the Narrator, PJ Harvey as Holly, Ben Nichols as Gideon, Kendrick Lamar as Charlemagne, James Murphy as the Cuckold, Courtney Barnett as Mary and a man known only as "the Dill" playing a lawyer doing most of the talking. The same confidential source revealed that the Harvey/Nichols duet on "Stuck Between Stations" had a ferocity in its first take that left Lamar literally soiling his $1100 sweatpants. As of press time, the Chorus had still not been cast, though the Drive-By Truckers and Titus Andronicus are rumored to be clearing their schedules.

We've had Denver and Chicago clues the last two days which led my girlfriend to suggest riotfest, which might also explain the delay in waiting until the 18th.

Riot Fest makes total sense, especially because they're into the "[Band] plays [Album that made them famous]" format. Selfishly, I hope that's not the case, though. I'd really love a club show, since their last Denver date was a hour-long festival set. But I'll take what I can get!

I can tell you that song kick just alerted me to new shows for THS, Craig Finn, and Against Me! That got me way, way excited- but alas, just coincidence. THS, according to songkick, is playing Denver and Chicago for riot fest.
