The Gaslight Anthem have just announced two big summer shows happening at Pier 26 @ Hudson River Park on July 26 and 28. The first night is being opened by their Jersey punk forefathers The Bouncing Souls and the second night is being opened by their Springsteen worshipper forefathers The Hold Steady (who also play one of The Gaslight Anthem's NJ shows). Tickets for both Pier 26 shows go on sale Friday (4/12) at noon with a fan presale starting Tuesday (4/9) at 10 AM and an AmEx presale starting Wednesday (4/10) at 10 AM.

wow....talk about full circle almost to the date....I remember going to see them as part of Riverfest on July 27 2006 at Castle Clinton down in Battery Park. I was in the second row, and it was a fully acoustic set. It was great being able to hear Craig fully enunciate the words to songs like 212 Margarita. From where I was sitting he barely needed the mic. The next night I saw them in some sweaty little bar in Albany. I helped Franz set up his piano on a bar table we lifted onto the stage and when the band came on the temperature went to about 110 degrees. It was sick. It makes me kinda sad that seven years later they are playing Riverfest as a warm up to Gaslight. But I might go anyway. Here is the Set from Castle Clinton: Stuck Between Stations You Gotta Dance (With Who You Came To The Dance With) Chicago Seemed Tired Last Night The Swish Your Little Hoodrat Friend 212 Margarita Cattle and the Creeping Things Modesto Is Not That Sweet Party Pit You Can Make Him Like You Chillout Tent Citrus Don't Let Me Explode First Night Southtown Girls Encore: Multitude of Casualties Certain Songs Note: This was a free, fully unplugged/acoustic show.

What a show. Tad was on fire and the boys were really happy to be back playing a hometown gig. Craig mentioned the recording sessions in Nashville; Wait Awhile sounded great - the other new song was a big rocker with "wild west" Look Alive-esque lyric references (but was a totally different song). I was pleasantly surprised at the crowd energy, considering this was a opening act gig for the band. Great great time! Gotta say this was a much better experience overall than New Year's at Wellmont last year.
And... shout out to the girl I met who also has a "stay positive" tatt!

New song was a rocker alright, as they segued into Chips Ahoy Craig said "that was a song about a cowboy, this is a song about a horse". Great show and the crowd were into it. Cattle & the CT with Stickles was kinda weird and kinda cool. Lots of positivity and joy, which wasn't matched by The Gaslight Anthem, who complained to their own fans for not knowing the words to a Lady Gaga song and for requesting a Bruce cover. Was awkward

New song about cowboys is called "Rainbow" according to the set list.
The Hold Steady as a group had a great night last night. Excited to be playing a show, tons of energy, awesome guitar playing, and having lots of fun. When Patrick Stickles came on stage for Cattle, you could just see the pure joy and fun that Craig was having in that moment.
It was a shame that such a high for the night came down when Brian Fallon got upset that a crowd of Gaslight/Hold Steady fans wanted a Bruce cover.... Dude, you were taking about "sing along songs" what other artist do you think that crowd of fans would know every word to?

oooh, so they haven't abandoned Rainbow! i really liked it at union transfer, but since nothing had been heard of it since, i was worried they ditched it.

Setlist:
Constructive Summer Hot Soft Light Hurricane J Wait Awhile The Swish Rock Problems Magazines Rainbow Chips Ahoy! You Can Make Him Like You Your Little Hoodrat Friend Cattle and the Creeping Things (w/ Patrick Stickles) Stuck Between Stations Sequestered in Memphis Southtown Girls Stay Positive
I've decided THS should open for no one - they kicked Gaslight's ass last night.
