my problem is that i don't care about the exam. at all. i couldn't give two flying fucks whether i passed my degree or not (70% of the time). but i DO care about my favourite band on the planet doing a tour and i DO care about going to that tour and i DO care about being happy.
this is why my mother sometimes flips her lid and my father sighs heavily. and this is why, if i DO have an exam on the day of leeds, i will have small moral dilemma and i'll choose the gig.
i can't believe i just said that.

I would definitely go to the gig if the exam was on the same day. But because it's the day before I will be knackered for it.
And I also just realised that I actually have a plausible shot of getting an A on the exam (when all year I was aiming for a B)

There's always other gigs, there isn't another exam That's my new motto ah but the joy of retakes! untill i found out my english exam wasnt the day after the cambridge gig, i was seriously contemplating just not going and paying like 20 quid to take it another time... ofcourse you can see i have the most half-arsed work ethic in the world, but hey! the hold steady actually mean more to me

*puts on teacher hat* NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO FUCK UP THEIR EDUCATION BY GOING TO A GIG. Ok? Good. THS tour the UK all the time. Hostile_Matt, I approve of your motto. I am feeling very excited for Leeds! Han is going to stay at mine, woot! Sleepover fun! Plus another Hannah of mine may be coming along too! And my other half will be joining us, though he'll have to leave straight after the gig and go home so he can be freshfaced for work at 8am the next day. It'll be his first THS gig so I'm excited for that, and I'm looking forward to hanging out with you all!

Haha! I swear quite regularly. Sometimes in front of my students. This doesn't appear to be particularly unusual at my university, though.

I'm making no promises but keeping my drink count in single figures has a definite allure.

Hmm..what kind of exam board allows its exams to clash with a Hold Steady tour? I mean, honestly I'm going to have to negotiate this one with my parents. It involves flying from Northern Ireland directly after a Spanish exam. I hope I'm more persuasive than I think I am.

If you don't have any exams for at least a couple of days after, I think you could be quite persuasive on the "but I'll have worked really hard, I need a break" front, backed up with a "if I know I have something to look forward to I'll revise even harder!" point.

I know, I'm a bad ambassador. I do think, though, that breaks during exam season are useful! As long as you aren't missing exams for gigs - or for any other social event! - then I think it's a good thing to have occasional nights out whilst exam season is running, because you have to let off steam somehow... My parents used to encourage me to go to the pub whilst I was doing my A levels, haha. And that turned out fine!
