Breenle and I are thinking Blueberry Hill, not sure what time. We'll be the 39 and 40 yr old geeks rocking the Unified Scene shirts. Anyone else want to chime in? Tim

Probably! The group will prevail. As long as I can lay down a base coat of food to soften my liquor, it'll be great. Early is better, btw, we're gonna have to fight for our spots, I think.

Though they won't be screen printed, we are going to have some posters available at the show.

So, on the drive from Bloomington to St. Louis, my friend and I passed a big building in a manicured field, and the words on that building read:
ROCK CHURCH
And we're like, hey! That's where we're going. I'll post the pic at some point when he uploads it.

back from the show
set list......
The Hold Steady played without a pre-made set list.
songs 1, 2, 8, 16, 17, 21 were the only ones that were on the set list to start. everything else had question marks. Spencer and Mike got the filled in set list. here's how it went:
1 Massive Nights 2 Constructive 3? Hot Soft 4? Yeah Sapphire 5? Chips Ahoy 5.5? Navy Sheets(some how that was left off the filled in set los but was reviewing the one did.) 6? Chicago 7? Magazines 8 Cutters 9? You Gotta 10? Sequestered 11? Swish 12? Party Pit 13? Modesto 14? Same Kooks 15? Stevie Nix 15.5? Aderall 16. Discouraged 17. Hornets 18? Ressurection 19? Stations 20? Stay Posi 21? Slapped Actress
2 years since they played STL. very happy with the show.....good crowd......
lots of pictures......will get them downloaded and sent to Mr. Brendan so he can include them in the spring tour.
oh yeah, two US shirts sited, Mr and Mrs. 68 and 208. got to talk with them briefly.

Exciting! What was the vibe like without a firm set?
(I dreamed a whole show and after-party last night. Maybe I was channeling St. L.)

I thought the vibe was good. There were a couple of times I noticed everyone but Craig talking across the stage deciding what to play next. Dusty told me we were in for a treat and it really was. The crowd was good but it had a different vibe. Think it probably had something to do with this being the first time they were here since 2007.
Also, there was a lot smaller US representation than Bloomington.
Excellent performance though. Sure I will think about something else later.

Great show last night! I was actually working the monitors. I don't know if it was quite as fun as being out in the crowd though. During the soundcheck, THS played one new song all the way through, and were working on another one.
Also when Craig talked about opening day, I really though they were going to play "Take me out to the ballgame".

fantastic show, easily my favorite of the three we saw (u of i, bloomington, and this). we had a great spot right up front in front of craig. he especially seemed to be in extra good spirits and was the giddiest i've ever seen him. he could not stop dancing and was loving the left side. unfortunately it seemed to me franz wasn't feeling it too much, but it was definitely a unique show and quite a treat.

Franz did seem to be more subdued lasted night. especially early on in the show. i think that had more to do with the crowd than anything else. the crowd on that side of the stage really didn't seem to be getting into the show early. maybe they were in shock that THS was actually playing STL.
the security guy on the Franz/Galen side was really a jerk too. he kept harassing a couple of guys. don't know what his problem was. they were just enjoying the show and not doing anything......
still.....it was a good night.....

Chiming in late here-
The show was incredible. The band was way tight, although I too noticed that Franz was not feeling it. The lack of a setlist made for a great time- you could see the boys were having fun. I thought that the band to crowd vibe/connection really was there.
Highlights- Resurrection (because it's Resurrection) and Modesto (because I didn't expect it, and it was the one time Franz looked like he was enjoying himself on the accordion). Lowlights- the venue. no beer, lousy acoustics making for drums and bass drowning out vocals Tim

Hey don't be that hard on the venue. We do a lot of work trying to bring in quality shows like THS.

Not trying to be hard on the venue, and I appreciate trying to bring quality acts- Heck, I drove 650 miles to be there. Just saying sprayed concrete on steel beams= tough acoustics.

Very true. And you're right about the acoustics. It was built to be a cafeteria, so the room itself sucks.

unfortunately,i don't have much good to say about this show. how much you enjoyed it had a lot to do with how many times you'd seen them before and in what context. some random observations:
i will never attend a dry THS show again.i freely admit that this is probably a character flaw on my part.
private college kids:loosen up.for every kid in that room who was into it there were 3 or 4 of you just standing there. life's too short to act like an uptight middle aged white guy 20 years early.
terrible sound in that room.Iowa City next night wasn't the greatest room from a sonic standpoint either but it was fucking Philharmonic Hall compared to the Gargoyle.that room is the best you can do on your beautiful campus?c'mon...
Bobby was pretty much running shit on this night. which i guess was kind of a treat or at least interesting. however,a cynic(like me) would say that he was running the show because the rest of the guys were punching the clock.
The Hold Steady on an off night are still better than everyone else out there.
