Yikes, is it just me or were the keys really fucking annoying? I was wincing throughout the whole thing. I'll have to watch again when I'm not listening through laptop speakers, but Franz's talents are definitely minimized here.

Ha ha, I wonder if Franz was tempted to just use the Station keys part...

I saw Against Me! last night. Very rocking for sure. They opened for Smashing Pumpkins, er... sorry, Silversun Pickups.

Total misuse of Franz's talents, I will agree.
I do like the new album a lot though. One of the best of this year so far.

And they shoved him off in a corner. That man has far too much charisma to be that far back.
When I heard of Franz joining AM! I found it hard to picture his sound melding with theirs. Based on this song I think it's just drowned instead. Is he more prominent in any other songs on the album?

I don't think he recorded any of the parts on the album, I was under the impression that he is only a touring member.

yeah, he didnt play on the record. but there's one or two songs that are totally piano-driven. they would definitely need a keyboard player for the live show.
i really wish the production on the record wasnt so silly

I really wish Butch Vig wasn't involved again. I can't name a single album ha has produced that I more than tolerate. Not even Nevermind. I hope AM don't stick with him on the next record.

AM! is embarrassing. can anyone name a band that has so thoroughly and unselfconsciously sold out? it's a lot easier to take a band like green day (for example) who didn't start out singing fuck the man DIY anti corporation shit.

I was pretty shocked that the Hard Rock live was completely packed for Silversun. They are from that Snow Patrol/Wolfmother/Jet school of "alternative" rock. Not my cup of tea...

i dont think wolfmother or jet would consider themselves alternative. i think the press might lump them in with that scene but not themselves. i did hear gary shithead from snow patrol describe themselves as a stadium husker du.

Nirvana, Soul Asylum, Green Day all suffered bland albums at his hands. However, his work with Garbage isn't quite as shocking.

Yup, I agree with this. I don't know what's going on with the sound/the mix on that Leno recording, but it does not sound like that live. I saw them a few weeks ago and Franz was definitely in there with harmonies, that weird stringy keyboard sound was nowhere and it was absolutely phenomenal. Awesome live show. And all the Butch Vig haters out there, sure he's not exactly king of diversity now, but remember he did Gish, Siamese Dream and Dirty.
