And all the Butch Vig haters out there, sure he's not exactly king of diversity now, but remember he did Gish, Siamese Dream and Dirty. i really don't think his production adds anything to those records, though. the songs are good, so they hold up. but they sound very distinctly 90s.

Of course, they were recorded in the 90s.

but plenty of other records done in the 90s don't sound as dated!

How is anyone supposed to know what's going to sound dated in 20 years when they record an album?

What it comes down to is (and everyone is afraid to say/admit it). It sucks. Franz' solo work doesn't even come close to ANYTHING THS have done. All of his BEST work is and will be with THS. Don't tell me if Franz had nothing to do with THS you would give him a 2nd listen. Not trying to sound like a downer/jerk but. . .

the singers voice kind of reminds me of a mix of the dropkick murphy's old singer and new singer combined.

The solo work is fantastic, if a little un-focussed in arrangements. The songs aren't Finn-esque but are wonderful in the images they conjur up. I'm not familiar with WIFS, but I imagine that they aren't a million miles away from the stuff Franz is chucking out.
