Hey I like Gaslight as much as the next cretin BUT so far that new album is ka-shoo, ka-shoo, sleepy. The Hold Steady are the butter.

what kills me about gaslight anthem is the whole nostalgia for a time they never even lived through; that extreme romanticism of the past. i'm much more interested in right now. then why the THS love? they use a pretty dated form (rock and roll) and sing about old bands and old songs. the sound of NOW is probably some electro hiphop crunk mashup thing i dunno... i keep making the comparison because i don't want to keep listening to THS and TGA. i want a band that fulfills the same emotional needs, but they're hard to find and as for the similarities, it's not just sound. there's guys like Frank Turner and The Loved Ones who've toured with/worked with/repped both bands, and there's a massive overlap of fandoms... it's pretty easy to get fans of one band into the other one

I have both bands on my arm....looking forward to a fantastic night. They are both great bands. I have seem them live and I give a slight edge to The Hold Steady at the moment, but the Gaslight's show at the Double Door in Chicago was unadulterated rock and roll.
Anyone else planning on attending this show from Chicago?

Showdown in Detroit on 7/15 Love both bands! Not sure how the hell I'll convince wifey to go halfway across the country for this though.

my two favorite bands are playing in the same state that one of my very few remaining American friends lives. hmmm..... i sense a stupid, stupid, stupid plan forming i think Tim Berry just joined the show. he's not bad

i mean, THS and Gaslight are pretty much the only bands i seriously listen to (this is probably not a good thing) you're right. that is not a good thing. you should listen to more music.

THS have their nostalgic moments, but it's mostly tied up in an overall storyline. it's not as much a personal nostalgia, and it doesn't strike me as being so backward-thinking

I should probably wait a couple weeks before judging albums, because I now reverse my decision: HiW>AS, by kind of a lot.
