Hah, I just remembered the Pitchfork review of "21st Century Breakdown" completely bashing it and Green Day before he even heard it. I'm by no way saying that everything Pitchfork pulish is great. They post 25 reviews per week, some of them great, some of the good and some of them bad.

Let's guess! Pitchfork: 6.8 Uncut: 4/5 Mojo: 3/5 Mojo: 3/5You got that one correct! Just dropped through my letterbox. Hooray 3/5 in Q as well. I stand by my words: This record will recieve mixes reviews slight above average.

Yeah, seriously, it's your loss if you don't like or love the album.
Quality in music is subjective, not objective.

Not sure about everyone else...but I'm enjoying this thread because I enjoy reading reviews of albums that interest me. Whether they (or I) like them or not....

I enjoy reading reviews too...it's all of this "I told you so!" rhetoric that is just annoying and obnoxious. Okay, your taste was validated by some 40+ year old British guys...move along now.

It's quite possible to guess on mixed reviews slightly above average, and yet personally like the album. To me, HiW is close to 10/10 already. I don't think reviewers will agree, though.

Coming from a huge Bruce fan, that was unwarranted. I'm a huge Springsteen fan from back in the day. Travelled everywhere to see him live. I hated WOAD when it came out. The Rolling Stone review was bullshit. A lot of the other reviews were spot on. And the most telling review was from Bruce himself, he pretty much abandoned the album on tour. This. WOAD was crap. Nigh unlistenable crap. I think I've played it -- all the way through -- less than ten times. Oh, and hi Jack!

Thats the sort of metaphor I was looking for in regards to Hurricane J. Q like THS to a point, they slated Posi Rage.

Q review was written by Keith Cameron, who has been a steadfast and voluble supporter of the Hold Steady.

Pretty good review, I don't like the knock on Slight Discomfort though. Song is incredible.

Haha! WTF? Danish Gaffa says 5/6, and compare HiW with Separation Sunday. And they feel the album is less poppy than Boys And Girls and Stay Positive. Short, but really positive review. Denmarks biggest music magazine, Soundvenue, is not as enthusiastic, but gives a decent 4/6 rating, and compares Hold Steady with Smasing Pumpkins (!), and hails We Can Get Together as the best track of the album. Norwegian Dagsavisen agrees both with the notion that We Can Get Together is the number one track of the album, and with the 4/6 rating. The reviewer feels the album lacks the little extra touch, something to push the album to the next level. In Sweden we find the third and fourth 4/6 rating in Expressen and on dn.se. Really short reviews, and not very informative either. Hurricane J hailed as a highlight i Expressen, while dn.se prefers Our Whole Lives (way to go, dn.se!). The rather obscure paper Kristiansstadsbladet, though, gives a 5/6 I'll keep you updated on the scandinavian reviews as soon as they are published.
