that could get a little hairy. i mean, The Police toured within the past couple years but could anyone call them active? likewise, say, The Pixies or Pavement.
i say keep it opened up.

East Coast /Midwest / West Coast / World ? UK/World, just so Gallows can beat up all the NMEindie bands but seriously UK has a massive number of rock bands and then a World for everywhere else

ehh...what about dead guys? not really fair to them.
and what about spinoff bands? i mean, The Dead tours but the Grateful Dead is hardly alive. but one could argue they're different iterations of the same band. and 10 years (or any number figure) is a bit arbitrary.

i like what you did in the thread, with people seconding what they want to get in that seems fair. maybe leave out the dead ones since they're not really that relevant?

i refuse to admit that Elliott Smith is not relevant. in fact, i believe it to be patently false.

yeah, this is all my point here, guys. it's free-form, people can nominate whoever they want. if they're alone in that assertion, the guy doesn't make it in. and if not everyone agrees with it, they lose in the tourney. THE SYSTEM WORKS

sounds good, man. is the decision final to keep it current, then? Cause if we are, should probably take Black Flag off the nominations

That is literally a match of my least favorite band of all time and my favorite band of all time. Nickelback sucks out loud to the point of not even being listenable.

I've never been in favor of keeping it current. I actually think it's more interesting if it's not. Plus with 65 bands it could get a little watered down if we keep it current.
I think you run the risk of basing eligibility on subjective standards if you don't open it up.

so i actually checked out this bracket. is this guy retarded or am I? ? !3OH3! really??? they are rock. and nickleback doesnt deserve number one overall. Kings of Leon vs Against me!/Creed? is there anyway the 3 of those can lose right now? i like lil wayne, but i thought this was rock and roll? not music in general. Cobra Starship?? please stop the car. im gunna throw the fuck up. i consider owl city techno so id count them out. and i love MGMT but they need to be in a techno bracket as well. John Myer vs Nick Jonas and the administration? ill take the douchebag. part of the requirments of being a rock band is getting some action, so nick jonas and the chastity belts are out. and im just gunna leave kris allen vs adam lambert alone. too easy. i should do this shit for a living. and im sorry if i offend.

apparently Lil Wayne put out a rock album recently as much i dislike MGMT's fans if you remove the image they're a nice neo-psychadelic band. and Kids is catchy as hell their Aussie imitators, Empire of the Sun, started out as basically a George Harrison tribute band called The Sleepy Jackson its the state of Rock and Roll now, so the list is gonna reflect that

i feel there is requirments to be considered rock.
1. Banging drum that make your heart palpitate. 2. Guitar Riffs that make tears come from your eyes or your skin melt off. 3.their music brings people together 4. their music changes lives.
feel free to add onto requirments, but the one of the few bands that meet those requirments on that list, THS is one of them.

Calling owl city techno is an insult to techno. and i don't even LIKE techno.
Owl city is a fucking terrible, blatant Postal Service rip-off, pandering to the masses. it is awful. i am literally insulted when i hear their music. (thankfully, it only happened once.)

Owl city is a fucking terrible, blatant Postal Service rip-off, pandering to the masses. it is awful. i am literally insulted when i hear their music. (thankfully, it only happened once.) im sorry. its just the boop boop beep bops and beeep beep boop bop beep beep made me call them techno. i propose a new musical category, called shit. it will include 3OH3, Cobra Starship, and Owl city as the pioneer bands. yay or nay?

haha yes. that works.
owl city just hits a nerve with me. for me and so many others i am sure the postal service's one and only full album was extremely important to my musical development.
in an interview the dude from owl city put himself in the same league as the postal service and said that maybe they were the next generation or something insulting like that. just. ugh.
it was not a direct attack on you or anything, though. no worries.

i don't like techno generally but what you describe as techno is not even close to what techno is. but it's a pretty common mistake, like when people say something is "emo."
i don't know if there's a catchy name for whatever The Postal Service did but it's basically pop music. Techno is not pop music.
