I love the idea, but what the hell? So much shitty, awful music. I hope he goes through with this, but it better not be based on ticket sales or some stupid shit like that. The Hold Steady may not play amphitheaters, but at least they don't get booed off stage like Nickelback. www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7F3O6WYfHQ&feature=related

The guy who made it doesn't even know how he's judging it. He did say post something if you have an opinion.

that entire bracket is an embarrassment to rock and roll, the NCAA, and Kurt Loder's corpse

that entire bracket is an embarrassment to rock and roll I agree, but this gets me thinking...what would my bracket of 65 rock bands look like?

around here all rock and roll gets kinda lumped together... majority of mainstream music is dance/electro/pop, so i get shit for liking 'generic American rock'. forces to the scenes to be unified, so punks/metalheads/classic rock kids hang out together doesn't stop AC/DC from selling out arenas though
don't make me choose between Green Day and Panic At The Disco seriously Gaslight Anthem will CREAM Owl City Faith No More will cream AnCo DMB vs Them Crooked Vultures isn't even a fight Phish vs MMJ makes too much sense

I agree, but this gets me thinking...what would my bracket of 65 rock bands look like? Oh no... i like this idea, alot. take votes on who would make the 65 band cut something like that, or does everyone have one of their own?

but if you did it by votes wouldn't you know who everyone wanted to win already was? so the results would be predetermined by the time you put it together.
maybe we could just leave it up to a nomination process have everyone throw out band names. if a band is seconded, it passes. get 65, seed randomly, and put every matchup to a vote. that way you protect against one person's monopolization of their tastes, and you get a good grab bag mix of subgenres and eras. it'd probably have some interesting matchups.

Jesus. Those two band names shouldn't ever even be mentioned within the same website- much less NEXT to eachother in some stupid bracket.
Phuck MTV.

This sounds like a plan! Anyone fancy putting a thread together? I would, but I have too much work at the moment.

is it just current bands? does it span all genres? kinda alot to think about, like the beatles vs THS? or michael jackson vs neil young?
the brackets for ncaa get broken down by region maybe have the regions represent genres. or since we here all pretty much love rock n roll maybe have a legends region, an indie region, and so on. or just keep it to current recording and touring acts?

why not keep it like the article? rock and roll, divided by geographical region have the main US regions, and UK region or two, and one for Oceania (Australia, Japan, China) actually i'm not sure if our bands can stand up against the might of Japanese garage rock....

well i was just thinking you would completely randomize it since it wouldn't really be fair to seed them by one person's ranking...and taking a vote would take you back to that problem i mentioned earlier.
i guess you could separate the regions afterward, or you could each region off after 8 or 16 teams are named that fit it. although then you get arguing whether certain bands are indie or punk or alternative or classic rock or whatever.

I would go completely random, only because we'll find ourselves having to cut out bands because we have too many from one genre or location, and once you're cutting bands that are better than others to fit a bracket you might as well just throw it all away. 65 rock bands, random order.
