i love snow... but i hate cold..i only tollerate cold when it is snowing.
New Jersey closes school on discression of the Superintendant, usually at around 2 inches, or when road conditions are no longer safe for safe bus transport, and in the most densly populated state, with the highest automobile insurance rates in the country, most schools close if there is one inch on the ground.
My home school district is actually pretty good about this, they try to remain open at all costs, but when the roads are bad, or they cannot be plowed in time schools are closed. Small town, so plowing side streets where most of the residents live is not a priority.
My college on the otherhand.. they remain open constantly, classes have only been canceled by the school once, and that was because they couldn't plow the sidewalks as fast as the snow was piling on... even then it was only afternoon classes where all my classes are early morning. I have had classes canceled, but that was by professors who had to travel and were like fu*k it.

I grew up in the Twin Cities in MN and school was never closed within the I-494 I-694 circle because we were usually plowed out pretty quickly. I remember not getting to school until 3rd period (of a 4 period day) once because we had to shovel my mom's car out and then it wouldn't start.

I have a friend from LA, who was performing somewhere mid west, and his car got covered in ice and snow. He was scraping his car with a credit card.... and he ended up in the news paper for it because he was from LA and didn't know how to deal with snow and ice. He had a video on youtube about it.. we all made fun of him.
A week later, we were at an event in PA... it ice stormed.. and my friend locked his keys in his running car... and we were trying to break into it during this snow/ice storm. On video I said it was karma, and it was.
