I got into the factory this morning to find the old CD rack from the back room has been dragged out into the light. Right now we're listening to Adam Ant's Kings Of The Wild Frontier. LOUD! And it's bloomin' brilliant.

Tonight... The Fat White Family's Cannibal Holocaust and The Black Keys' Turn Blue. Think I'll need a couple more listens of both before I form a real opinion. In the meantime I'm digging The Essential Hall & Oates in preparation for Latitude festival.

Pitchfork is streaming the regular version. Exclaim is streaming the half time version. I like the slow version A LOT more than I thought i would. Makes the limited edition album way more appealing.

Murs' "Everything." I don't understand how Murs isn't bigger than he is.

Rik Mayall reading Roald Dahl's "George's Marvellous Medicine" on Jackanory. Simply astounding. RIP Rik Mayall.

After seeing them in Manchester recently, I'm enjoying Embrace's new material. Shades of Depeche Mode/New Order in their new sound.

Managed to nab a copy of the new Morrissey album, World Peace is None of Your Business, a few days early and happily the positive reviews are correct. The Bullfighter Dies, I'm Not a Man, Neal Cassidy Drops Dead... Great song after great song and some real bite to the lyrics. His best album since You Are The Quarry definitely and maybe even Vauxhall & I. Also Let's Go to War on the new Manic Street Preachers LP Futurology is brilliant.

the new Hard Girls album, A Thousand Surfaces. wasn't really a huge fan before, but this new one is really great. i don't even mind that the beginning of the first song is literally exactly the same thing as Against Me's "New Wave"

has anyone thought to build a "other than the hold steady" playlist on spotify? I'm happy to start if no one else has done it. just put what can be found from this thread on to it and let people like me get exposed to some new stuff.

Now I know this is a really unpopular opinion. But I honestly believe that Kaiser Chiefs are a fantastic pop group doing something rather unique in the British Music Landscape. They are equal parts indie band and mainstream pop. They have massive hit singles and are a killer live band but have no street credentials what-so-ever and a totally invisible fanbase (I literally know no other KC fans, but have stood in festival crowds while thousands lose their shit to their set). They are not cool or punk or top 40. They don't fit in with any scene at all yet are often accused of being landfill or bland (BlandFill?). If you listen to this record it has spoken word poetry, discordant dystopian drama, torchsongs, rocky power pop and some terrific lyrics. And it's funny. Kaiser Chiefs are always witty. I get the "sell-out" thing with the reality TV and the Ronson album. I get the over exposure as the polite face of Glastonbury along side BBC approved stuff like Bombay Bicycle Club and Lily Allen. I get it that they are not cool. But If this is British pop in 2014, I'm a lot happier with it than I thought I would be.

DO NOT MISS the new Jenny Lewis record, The Voyager. Definitely her best solo album and up there with Execution of All Things in her catalog.
