Maybe I’m getting or am old and at the risk of being an apostate, the last several shows I’ve attended-most recently last night at Brooklyn Bowl- have featured TERRIBLE sound. Aside from making the music unbalanced and at times an unrecognizable roar, my ears hurt the next day and I wear heavy duty ear plugs. Perhaps it’s because I am upfront and the sound is aimed at the middle? The monitors fight with the speakers? Just odd because I have not noticed these issues before.
Side note-anyone know if the horns will be in Brooklyn later in the run. Were Missed last night imho.

I'm guessing we will get the horns tonight and tomorrow. The last few years, they've brought out the Horn Steady specifically for the Fri & Sat shows.
I haven't minded the overall mix, I've been able to hear all the parts well. But I do agree with you that if you're upfront, earplugs are a necessity -- the sound is pretty overwhelming -- and that does muffle certain elements of the mix. I think if you stand back around where the cash bar is, or further back, the volume is more tolerable and the mix translates better.

You were right about Horn Steady on Friday, I bet we see them tonight as well. I also wear an earplug up front, it’s a necessity. But regardless of the mix, I feel like being up front and sitting in the back are very different experiences. It just isn’t the same show. I agree the mix feels a little muddled sometimes, though.

Was about five rows back on Thursday and stood towards the middle right on Friday and definitely noticed the difference in sound. I was basically right under the right bank of front speakers on Thursday and it was almost uncomfortably loud. I think you sacrifice a bit in terms of sightlines but standing toward the middle seems to produce the best sound. Had the same experience in London last spring.

Stood about one third of the way back on Saturday and it was night and day. Sound was crisp and well differentiated. Crowd was still focused and involved. Having been up front most of the time over the years, this may be my new go to. Horns of course were great. I was there Wednesday and Saturday.
