This morning my friend John passed away after fighting an illness for much of this year. He posted here as jtd7 and was a big fan of The Hold Steady. I'm sure he ran into some of you at shows and if you met him you probably remember him. I was lucky to have known him (and to play music with him) and I will miss him. He was a gifted musician and he played piano and sang when our informal band played "Stuck Between Stations". Here he recounted his experience playing "Chips Ahoy!" on the accordion with the band at a THS soundcheck in 2014. theholdsteady.proboards.com/post/110728/threadThrough whatever adversity he faced, John always managed to "stay positive".

Thank you for posting. I saw this morning because I am connected with his wife on FB. He had introduced us based on our both having attended women's colleges and our continuing support for them.
I once ran up on them at a show (I forget which one), far too excited and enthusiastic. I think I freaked her out a little, but jtd7 knew what was up. The result was hugs all around. And so much joy.
I sent him his US shirt. Retiring #144. All the love.
XO WD

Sorry to read this. John wrote me a lovely letter one time detailing his Irish heritage and his love of music. May he rest in peace

I just saw this - I'm stunned. I feel like I knew John pretty well- saw him at local shows, talked at length with him about science, teaching, nerve damage... I even ate dinner with him once before a show. Not sure when I last saw him- maybe at an Xpn Free at Noon at Ardmore Music Hall?
Thanks for letting us know. RIP John.
