From the email mailing list:
For The Unified Scene and all our THS Friends:
Next year The Hold Steady turns 20! To celebrate, we are in the planning stages of a number of different ideas.
One idea in the works is a book chronicling The Hold Steady’s journey to date. Instead of a traditional rock bio, we think the fans telling the tale of The Hold Steady is putting it in the best hands, filled with the robust folklore and stories about the music, and the meaning of how it all coalesced to concoct this Unified Scene.
Besides sharing your history with the band, we’re also asking for any mementos you might have laying around: ticket stubs, posters, t-shirts, photos (especially photos), etc. Revealing your memories and your feelings about what The Hold Steady is to you is the heartbeat of what we’re trying to create.
If you’d like to participate in this creative adventure with us, please send any and all content to theholdsteadybook@gmail.com and let us know what you have to contribute.
Most of all, we’re trying to keep this within ’The Unified Scene’ and would love it if this was kept quiet, between all of us, until the book is done and we’re ready to show it off.
Photos should be as high-resolution as possible. Anything you write down to share, the only guidance is keeping it no more than 500 words.
We're trying to make this so we can give as many people as possible the chance to contribute. Your story can be whatever you want it to be: a first date gone disastrously wrong (or right. Perhaps), the day your car got turned over in a tornado but your CD of Almost Killed Me survived, how your first child was born to the sound of "Blackout Sam." It just needs to be something true about The Hold Steady and you.
Suggestion from the pros: Avoid "my first show" – unless something really extraordinary happened at that show.
All of the contributions will be reviewed and any edits discussed with you.
Deadline is May 27. Email goodies to: theholdsteadybook@gmail.com
