Dear Unified Scene,
Fourteen months, two message boards, and one LilHan later, we’re finally at this point.
Theres a brand, spanking new Hold Steady website!
For reasons unknown to us, The Hold Steady had been lacking a definitive web presence for some time. A small group of us decided it was best to get up a new web site for the band, and collaborated to put together something that not only was the face of the band on the internet, but something that many of you helped create.
This new site will be the place to go for the latest and up to date news on the band, where to find out where the band will be touring (and where to buy tickets), see the band’s lyrics, scope out the merch, and of course, provide the link to the heart and soul of the Unified Scene, this very message board.
Also, we wanted to include what have been important resources to those who have visited the boards. dot info’s Wiki, TheWho’s Live Archive, and of course, Stephanie’s Compendium.
We wanted to keep the site with current trends, so we’ve linked the main page to The Hold Steady’s Flickr page, where if you upload photos to the group, they’ll eventually cycle on the main page of the website. If you take photos at shows, remember that’s there!
There’s not one - but TWO Hold Steady Twitter pages. The first, is @theholdsteady, and the second, which is @unifiedscene. For those who tweet, follow both of them! The Hold Steady Twitter is run by management as of this writing, and the Unified Scene one is a fan run page. Also, there’s MySpace and Facebook links. So, enjoy those.
Okay, now, the important part. The thank you's.
First and foremost, The Hold Steady. That goes without saying. Thanks for letting us put your site together.
Also, a big thanks to the dudes at Ravenhouse Management that helped us get the whole project together.
THIS WEBSITE WOULD HAVE NOT HAPPENED IF IT WASN’T FOR THE FOLLOWING DUO.
Mike Ross, known to board members here as Campfirewood1980, and Mike Van Jura, who we all know as Jersey Mike.
The contributions they both have made in the process of this website have been completely invaluable. There was a lot of hard work and dedication of pulling this all together (almost) on time.
Mike Ross, without a doubt, is the MVP of this whole operation. Everything you see on this website, he’s designed from SCRATCH. The layout, the graphics, all of it was directly him. He even hard-coded the templates, which, I suppose the best way is like doing a wood carvings with a butter knife. It’s not easy.
He spent over 100 hours of his time endlessly tinkering with code and putting up with a flurry of suggestions just to get the layout just right. HUGE kudos to him.
Of course, and then there is Jersey - the godfather of this board - and the guy that brought us to the dance to start with with this crazy website idea. He’s also been the link to the dudes in charge.
He was great about always checking in, making sure we were prepared for the launch,
And Jersey - Jersey’s been our link to the guys in charge - always making sure we had everything ready for launch, keeping the morale high when we hit some rough spots, and also made sure that we stayed on course. His enthusiasm is contagious. It made doing this that much more fun.
Lastly, we want to give a thank you to EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU for the patience you’ve shown and all of the positive vibes you’ve been sending us as we’ve been cryptically dropping hints on this for the past few weeks. This board is truly something special, and we’re all very proud to be a part of it.
We hope you enjoy this new web site. We had a great time putting it together.
Stay Positive!
Sincerely,
Brendan, JerseyMike and Mike Ross (Campfirewood1980)
P.S. There's a couple bugs to work out, we know. We're already working on them. We just couldn't wait any longer. ;D
