Over the past couple of weeks, twelve years or so after I first heard them, I'm starting to realise that Beulah is one of my favourite bands. When Your Heartstrings Break (1999) and The Coast Is Never Clear (2001) is such perfect pop records, slick and rough, soothing but disturbing, well crafted songs with lots of great stuff happening both in and on top of them. Krauty and dreamy stuff like Emma Blowgun's Last Stand and Gravity Is Bringing Us Down alongside clean cut pop songs like Popular Mechanics For Lovers or A Good Man Is Easy To Kill. Pretty much perfect.

love love love love this band. i only got to see them once, on the yoko tour, and it was wonderful. they really nail a certain mood for me and they're essential summer listening. you should check out the one solo album Miles Kurosky released a while back. it's basically a Beulah album. really great.
