Hi all,
Long-time lurker first-time poster. I was made up to find my vinyl reissues of AKM and SS on my doorstep today (first time I've smiled in two days!). Anyway, in keeping with the trend of 2016, the joy was quickly tempered. I stuck on the white vinyl SS first and all was good until I flipped it over to side two - which is pressed waaay off-centre. Please note: I am no audiophile (and I find the lengths some will go to to take the immediate joy out of music by obsessively comparing and contrasting 'sound stage's, 'upper levels' and 'lower end's amazing) but this is pretty unmissable. The tone-arm is waving all over the place and it's audibly noticeable pretty much throughout the side but particularly on Crucifixion Cruise' (to be expected) and HARRF. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?
On a related note: how much does it suck that this so common among 'new' records? Like I said, I don't expect perfection but, for example, the American pressing of the last Nick Cave album was criminal. I took it back to my local record store in Houston and the guy didn't even check, just smiled apologetically, told me I was the third person to return a copy and actually advised me to not bother trying another one ("just wait for another pressing") . Shortly after that, I got a recent repress of the lost Gene Clark album 'Two Sides to Every Story' (good album!). Sounds great but the first track on each side are unplayable because of a warp. A little 'net search confirmed my copy was not an anomaly.
Despite all the bullshit hipster, Urban Outfitter-connotations, vinyl is the still way to go. Sound preferences etc. notwithstanding, records are just more fun. But given the cost these days, it shouldn't be too much to expect a half decent pressing for a brand new product.
Anyway, i'm sorry that my only post on here is negative. My disappointment is only because SS is probably one of my five favourite albums of all time. Just to end on a positive - I'm on Killer Parties right now and AKM has played perfectly and never sounded better.

I really hope they are not all like that - mine shipped on Thursday and USPS First class international tracking informs me it'll be 2-3 weeks (yes that is WEEKS) to get here. Brings into question what First class really means these days, personally I'd be ashamed if my name was associated with such a poor service - anyways, fingers crossed that the pressing is ok as it's going to an interesting conversation with sabotproductions.net if it's no good.
Hows AKM?

I got notification that mine was shipping out on 11/9. USPS has it arriving to me in Pittsburgh on 11/16. I don't think that's TOO bad, but a little jarring now that I'm totally accustomed to Amazon having everything to me in 1-2 days. Mine is marked "Media Mail", and not "First Class". First Class is 1-3 business days, Media Mail is 2-8. I'll survive. I kinda wish we got a download link to satisfy us in the meantime.
Also, these are the definition of "First World Problems".

AKM sounds and played great. No issues at all. I've played SS four times now (in the hope I was seeing and hearing things) but there's no missing it. My wife even noticed and commented last night.
As for 'first world problems', you're right of course. Just frustrating because it's been a long wait to get SS on vinyl. Genuinely hope this isn't common throughout the pressing and everyone gets their pristine copies sooner rather than later.
Would appreciate any updates if/when they start to arrive though.
Kris

To be clear, my "first world problems" was meant to be in reference to my grousing about having to wait a whole extra weekend (and change) to get my SS vinyl. If there's a problem with the product itself, that's a valid complaint.

Also, these are the definition of "First World Problems". Actually, more appropriately, "Rock and Roll Problems."

I haven't received my order yet (vinyl and CD of AKM and SS). I pre-ordered the day when they announced it a couple months ago. I have not received emails on shipping or status yet. Is anyone else still waiting or in the dark?

Same here- preordered both vinyl and cd's on the first day and I've never received an email about shipment or status of the order. I emailed them yesterday and haven't gotten a response yet.

I emailed them earlier today and got a response this afternoon:
Hi Mark. Apologies for the delay, pre-order demand was higher than expected and we are still working through orders. Your order is processing now and will ship out this week. You'll receive a shipping confirmation e-mail containing tracking info when the order goes out. Thank you for your patience.

Just finished my first listen - happy to report that mine sounded amazing and played perfectly with no skipping. Sorry that you may have gotten a bad copy, but hopefully it's not widespread.
edit: I should say, the tone arm is definitely more wavy on side B but audibly I could not hear anything weird.
edit 2: Well shit, on my second listen I did hear some weirdness.

Any problem with a pressing with a consistent error is going to vary depending on the equipment used. Hopefully it's not too bad on most setups, but some decks will not play off centered vinyl. It's sounding, from what I hear (no puns intended) that the whole batch is pressed badly for SS. I'll have to wait and see if mines the same - Amazon over here have it and it might be a different pressing? quite often the EU stuff is pressed in Germany and the US stuff is done in the US. I might order a SS from over here and we can do a check. Can someone post a Matrix number from SS?

My copies of AMK & SS t-shirt bundles, seem to both sound fine without any issues.
What issues are others experiencing so i can really focus on next listen.

I got my complete bundle w/ t-shirts today. Pretty disappointed with BOTH shirts being the wrong size. Amazingly enough, I got one M and one XL - I had ordered both in L. I hope this is fixable in some way, even though I'm living in Norway.
Haven't played Separation Sunday yet, but I played the Amazon copy of Almost Killed Me yesterday, and it sounded nice. It could be my stereo system, but the vocals seemed to be mixed a little lower, and the drums a little higher than what I'm used to. The guitars sound great.
There's no visible difference between the records ordered from the US and for Europe, by the way. So for those of you considering buying another copy to get a SS who plays better, I would say it won't work. It seems like the same records, allthough I haven't opened in to check the matrix number.

Well, that's pretty disappointing. I picked up my copy at Electric Fetus in Minneapolis and I see the same issue. I'm pretty new to the 2016 world of vinyl. What's the usual protocol for this sort of thing? Just take it back to the place of purchase and wait for word of a new pressing? I know when this happens with DVDs/Blu-rays the company will send out replacement discs for a manufacturing error if you call a number they'll set up, but I would imagine something like that is pretty cost prohibitive with a record.

Just because I'm not good at these things: How do you tell there's something wrong with your pressings, like, practically? How does it affect the sound? I understand that the arm will swing from side to side if the hole in the middle isn't centred correctly, but what does it sound like?
I was checking in to tell my copy plays perfectly well. But then I got to Charlemagne In Sweatpants, and the sound got all muddy and scratching - sort of. It could just be dust, but I wanted to hear how your copies sounds.
I've made it to Crucifixion Cruise on the B-side now, without hearing anything wrong.
